Re: Untitled...as of yet
Little more work over the weekend, got a filter on and painted a few of the details.
Apologies for the quality of the pic but I've just used the camera phone!
The officer figure is from the Tamiya "recon figures" set with a Hornet head, the driver is from the kit with Hornet head as well.
This is the general arrangement, the rest of the model will be filled with general kit and detritus. A search of the net revealed that the wee boat hook thing mounted above the muffler is for lowering and raising the prop unit. I therefore prised it off the mount where I had glued it and reorientated it into "boat mode".
I've had our local picture framers make up a box frame for me ($26) so that I can pour the acrylic water. Should have this started next weekend. This weeks plan is to work on the stowage and a light weathering of the schwimmwagen.

Re: Joy Ridin'
Its a great kit Olivier, typical Tamiya, just falls together with almost no fit issues and very little flash/mould lines to remove. Basic build time was about 3hrs, the only issue was the fit between the upper and lower halves which required a bit of clamping. Wouldn't be too bad if you were building it on dry land, but I need it to be water tight so the acrylic resin doesn't sink it!Olivier Carneau wrote:Nice little kit with a great finish.
There are some aftermarket PE set out there for this kit, but they are more expensive than the kit, and looking at them they would add very little, especially as half of this build will be under water!

Looking good Adam - loverley little kit isn't it?
We seem to have a minor Schwimmwagen GB going here !
Mind the armbands when you paint the figures - it's GD after all .
Best regards

Re: Joy Ridin'
Thanks Raoul!
Picked up my "base" from the picture framers. It's 3cm deep and the schimwaggen needs to sit in 2cm of "water". Have built up the riverbed with Das and then a layer of AK acrylic mud. The weather here in Auckland is pretty cold so everything is taking twice as long to dry. Got the first 3mm layer of acrylic water in this morning, still liquid 12hrs later...
Sign, looks like this might be a slow process....

Re: Joy Ridin'
Started the faces, ended up with something that looked like the undead so cleaned it all off and am having another crack. the AK Flesh set is challenging, the paints are a bit "chalky" and the base flesh is a mahogany colour. Thinking of mixing my own colours this time round.
Still pouring "water". The AK product is nice but at 1-2mm deep pours each time it is going to take a couple of weeks to fill the full 2.5cm!

Persevere with the face colours, Adam
A little glaze may help with the chalkiness?
Even airbrush flow enhancer?
Always worth trying different liquids, to see what makes a difference.
I am trying the scale 75 face paint set, for my sins
I feel your frustration about not having a reasonable base colour
To get consistency, rather than mixing every base colour, every time
Never done water before, but 25 mm seems deep, isn't there a "cheat?
Sounds like you will be having fun for some time to come

But besides, excellent work on the Schwimmwagen
