M12 155mm GMC

Post by Vlad Seabrook-Smith »

I don't know about shelf queens but I think this one is a Vampire elder!

Whilst the paint is drying on the scud, and not prudent to start another build just yet

The date on this kit and the Eduard set I have with it is 2000, I know I was building it shortly after that in 2001 or 2002 so this is the oldest kit in my collection, many of the others having been skipped! this due to living a gypsy lifestyle for so many years.

So for my shelf queen is this

Just giving it a very quick look over, I have some remedial work to conduct, and generally improve things as my skills have progressed a little. For some reason the vehicle rocks, just how this should occur is beyond me

So this is where we are at

A sorry state of affairs you must agree, but for about 14 years old, she's not too bad

I've never seen this model before. It looks like a "Mean Lean Fighting Machine"

More by circumstance than design unfortunately, sitting and doing something gentle like model building is about my limit at the moment, also helps mentally :)

If me posting lots helps with the forums picking up then great, twas a little quiet

Nothing lean about the 155mm long tom artillery piece :D it had a maximum range just shy of 15 miles  so certainly mean and definitely olive drab green

So I spent a few hours going over this one, and ehem! yes! bit of a mess......

I first stripped of some of the etch and went at it with filler and sanding sticks, then refurbed some of the brass that had become damaged.

Then put it all back together, I seem to have lost a step from the rear fender and a hand wheel........... the step not too much of an issue, the hand wheel I will have to dig through the spares, I may be some time! if I'm not back in a month please send letters home :D I replaced the tracks as most vehicles appear to be fitted with T41/T51 and T48 tracks but Academy have supplied what looks like T37. I have T48 left over from a previous project, thatl do :D

So here we are, ready for an undercoat to assess future works.

For such a relatively small amount of work, I cannot understand why its taken 14 years to get this far............... wait yes I can, its not the best of kits, needs a lot of work, but I believe its the only one on the market, the Eduard set is not good, but things have come a long way since then, and this kit really illustrates that clearly.

Looks good!
And I just have to say: "Avant Le Char de Mort" is probably one of the most badass things to write on any tracked fighting vehicle.
