Revell Land Rover Series 3 (109"/LWB)"
This is a reboxing of the an Italeri offering originally released in the mid nineties.
The Revell version is approximately £10 cheaper than the Italeri version both on sale concomitantly.
Hobby Boss have released a more modern 110 Defender which by all accounts is an entirely more refined kit.
However the primary reason to build this is to run through some Brit colours as a rehearsal for the Takom Chieftain which I'm waiting eagerly for. It may feature in a dio alongside
The secondary reason is for a quick simple build (Shawn - are you listening )
Brit vehicles here and on MA mean Chris Smith.
Chris I can't recall if you've built one of these
Here are some "mood" pics to set the scene. The first features the Brit BAOR Army vehicle that Revell provides decals for.
This Series 3 comes with a canvas tarp - so more practice
The Revell instructions are line drawn and clear though are fold over "notepad" style which makes them more awkward to use than booklet style instructions
Chassis construction is conventional with Quite a lot of clean up - moulding marks are frequent and prominent
It all build very quickly.....
Fit is basically good - but it's important to reflect that this is a 20 yr old Italeri offering so don't expect Dragon/Tamyia precision
The Tarp has a prominent moulded "ridge" along and around the top section. I forgot to take a picture before I set about removing this with the back edge of a No 11 blade. It gives the impression of a hard top when the depiction should be canvas. I had brief ideas to replace the sides with sculpted butty to try to give some sense of canvas but this is a quick build and overall I don't think the build justifies the time input. So I arrived at this
It should paint up OK
The really weak part of the kit is the wheels which really do show their historical pedigree
They are useable but since one is placed on the bonnet (hood) you really can't help to note the pitiful attempt at tread
Accurate Armour do a replacement set for £9 and the kiy just about justifies the spend So some are winging their way as we speak.
Let the record show that this is my 4th offering in this group build
It's not as if Work isn't frantic etc etc
Thanks for looking
Rob

That's quite a selection of modern vehicles you've put together No doubt this will look just as fine as the others in the end
Just for the record, they only count as completed once Gary has published the gallery pictures

Hi Rob,
I have in the distant past used an earlier boxing of this kit as the basis for my Wombat Portee conversion. I really ought to get one and build it as a normal workhorse.

Nice little soft skin for a change Rob!
Mind the most important fact about each and every and any and all Revell offering: ignore the suggested colours, sometimes those are so insanely wrong that you might end up with a M4 in bottle green or a German three tone of sand yellow, brick red and blueish green .
Best regards

Hi Rob
For all the age and "old" issues and comments
your build looks very clean and CAD like
An ideal canvas for all the paint and weathering you will be doing
And quick too
Nice one
