My Meng nuts are staying in the spares box….

The camo pattern is hard edge so I elected to hand paint it and several layers of thinned Mig paints later we have this;
The colors are nothing like the box art or the colour templates in the instructions but are probably closer to the real thing when referencing the colour templates for the RAL number online. So I’m going to make the assumption the painting guide and box art have used artistic license They should also tone down with a filter and oils etc.

The decals go down well, and settle in with a bit of microsol and microset. The national markings are a bit out of register, but a bit of paint solves this.

On to the oils….

Oils done, tools mostly done, running gear just needs some weathering and the predusting is done. The somewhat garish colors are toning down, but to be honest I’ll be glad to get this one done as I’m just not that happy with how it’s turning out and it’s too late to go back now…..

I know exactly how you feel, as that is how I felt with mine too
I have done 2 Panzer I's in the interwar 3 tone camo and they both felt and looked "Odd".
Its probably because the early interbellum panzers and almost all "traditionally" grey, even the grey/brown is a little "different".
It looks great Adam, but I know I just packed mine away after I had finished it, and it has been in a box in the attic ever since.
Drag her over the finishing line and move on to the next project.

Hi Adam,

the stark colours are a common problem with hand-painted patterns....maybe spray some fine filters on top, perhaps a thin ochre tone? A bit more dust could help too

Yeh, I’m hopeful the next layer (enamels +/- pigments) will tone this down.

They should. I bet all that hand painting took some time.

Calling this almost done. Multiple layers of speckling with enamels and a few streaks etc. added. Very happy with the exhausts/mufflers and finally with the tracks. My tool painting skills are still a WIP. A few minor touch ups when the enamels have fully hardened and then I’ll try to get some pics to Philipp for the gallery.

That came out very nice. As far as tool handles I apply a light tan / wood color then I apply very thin / glazes of Vallejo 939 smoke. You just apply as many layers as you want to get the desired effect that you want.
