German Kugelpanzer

Post by Adam Durrant »

I’m going with this for the GB;

It is a tiny, simple kit, but there are two in the pack so I’m going to build both, possibly one in primer and one in service. This will be more of an exercise in weathering than anything else.

Took about an hour to turn the single sprue into a ball tank!

I’ll add some cast texture to the ball sides, then have to work out a way to fill or disguise (?mud) the enormous seam down the middle of the “wheel” on either side.

What a weird....thing :lol: Haven't seen one of these being built before, but it's certainly simple enough :D

Build was easy, finishing it will be hard. The “wheels” on the real thing look to be a cast section. Das Werk has chosen to mold it in two pieces with a very obvious gap down the middle. This means filler and lots of mucking around to try and hide it….I may just accept it and disguise it with heavy mud! :(

Is this really a prototype or a what-if?

It really exists, and it's at the Kubinka tank museum....though I'm still not convinced it's not some practical joke by some bored mechanics, German, Soviet or otherwise :lol:

Russian Kugelpanzer - decals are on and dot filter complete. Just need to hit it with a pin wash and a few more oils, then on to the environmental effects.

German Kugelpanzer - base coat on, I’m going to distress the paint on this one the same as I did on the Russian one as I’m using these two builds as an experiment in weathering.
