In a quick image search it looks to me like they were a pretty dark color so my guess is you are on the right track.

In the past I have used a flat black base with AK Gunmetal pigment burnished on and been happy with the look. If you seal it in place with a clear coat it loses much of the shine and doesn't look nearly as good.

On most photos the barrels look like plain black to me.

Nice progress on this beauty 8-)

Thanks for the tips guys. With Mg barrels I’ve usually done either black paint burnished with steel pigments or gunmetal paint then a black wash. Cannon barrels are usually the same colour as the tank. This ones a mystery to me but I’ll try a few of the suggestions and let you know how it pans out! :D

Morning Adam

Great progress with the over engineering of this one.

Looks like you will soon be finished once the barrels have been sorted out.

The PE worked out nicely, there don't seem to be too many decal either

Have fun with the weathering.

Regards

Bit of an update;

Modulation done with AK's OD Green "basic" set. Dot filter using oils with a little bit of shading as well. Pin wash with oils as well.

Finally settled on a polished metal and metallic black base coat for the barrels with a "Nuln Oil" wash. Ledbelcher was used for the polished metal areas with an Agrax Earthshade wash. See, the SciFi group build did give me some transferable skills :lol:

The 40mm Bofors mount is now installed. The whole arrangement is very flimsy and is meant to be moveable after assembly, but I chose to cement it all down at that elevation to stop it falling apart as I work!

Usually I would have the running gear on now and the tracks assembled. However, due to the fragile nature of the wheel axels I won't be able to install them till they are weathered, and I won't be able to finalise assembly of the track until I know how many links to install for correct track tension...the mental gymnastics with this kit continue!!
