Italeri/Revell Sd.Kfz 10/5

Post by Philipp Gross »

Hi Folks,

while merrily airbrushing my Kugelblitz I was beset by a rather inconvenient technical failure and thus the build is on hold until a replacement arrives.

In the meantime, I might as well introduce my next project, which I probably would have started first if I had remembered I had it

The Sonderkraftfahrzeug 10/5 was a common version built on the even more common 1 ton halftrack chassis. It was a slightly improved variant of the previous Sd.Kz. 10/4, which was armed with the older Flak 30. While increasingly obsolete during the later years of the war, the little halftrack remained in service in all European theatres until the end. Some received an armoured shield of very limited protective value around the cab

Dragon has released a much better kit a few years ago, but I got this one, mostly because it was cheap. I'm keeping it simple, the only upgrade will be the nice Tristar Flak 38. I haven't yet decided on the setting, so I'm choosing the figures at a later point.

Oh, and this is the second time I'm building one of these...the last one was back in 2008. Probably the first time I've managed a halfway decent camo scheme with my old single action airbrush

Nice choice Philipp

I think everyone has one in the stash, I do, and i think Shawn does as he is after a Flak 30.

Your 2008 build looks pretty good, you should have just said this is the GB LOL

Have fun with the tracks though!

Thank you Steve! :D

A while ago I took my old build apart for a refurbishment, but I don't think it's worth the effort right now. If nothing else I'll keep it around for parts. I have an old Dragon Sdkfz 250 that I could steal the tracks from, but I don't remember them being completely horrible :?

As you are experienced with this vehicle it should be an easy build, so have fun.

Thanks Olivier and Shawn :) I'm afraid the last build was so long ago I don't remember much of the details

I made a start, no big difficulties so far, it's simple but still a nice kit.

Morning Philipp

Looks as good, detail wise, as any kit at the moment.

Certainly not showing its age or heritage being Italeri.

I had dug my Dragon version out of the stash for the GB, but I eventually realised I had a Pz I,

D'ohh!

I need to have a go before the eyes give up altogether LOL

Have fun with the build

Thank you Steve & Vincent! :)

It's okay....not perfect but not a complete disaster either. I'll put it together mostly as it is and try to be happy with it.

I also have the Dragon Sd.Kfz. 10 with the Pak 38 mounted on top (a prize from the old days of Modelarmour), but that's obviously of no use for me right now

The current state:
Image

The radiator needed a little filler due to sink marks, but nothing too serious. I'll add a cover to the windshield, so I don't have to worry about the clear parts. This was often done by AA units so that enemy aircraft wouldn't spot any reflections on the large glasses.

The good thing about these kits is the suspension, which can be assembled onto separate panels you can leave off until the very end. This makes fitting the tracks fairly easy.

Apart from the tracks and a bit of tissue on the windscreen, the halftrack itself is now done:

Overall it's a really basic kit. I'm tempted to go full retro and build it with the original Flak and save the Tristar Flak for something more modern.
