The fenders fuel tanks are removable. The main tank is inside the vehicle. You can see some T-55s without the fenders tank fuels as well.
Another point comes to mind when I looked at your picture and the boxart. Trumpeter kit show a tank with a rangefinder above the main gun which is not present on the period picture. If you intend to depict this specific tank, you'll have to take care of this.

Thank you Oliver, the rangefinder will defentivly go, I have been able to find a single picture from Vietnam with it mounted.
