KV-5 again

Since I finished the KV-7, I wanted to take another run at this GB with the KV-5. I finished the Takom kit last year... almost to the day. :o

This is the Trumpeter kit. So far construction has been straightforward with no real issues. If I keep things simple, I can finish by the deadline but we all know how that goes.

It's an absolute beast of a tank! :D

I'm greatly tempted to start mine, but the scenery I want to build for it would take me years to finish.... :?

  So build something easier. Or better yet, skip the scenery. ;)

I'm tempted to build this as a Beute but also have a Russian figure that would work nicely.

Re-captured Beutepanzer. Problem solved

My idea involves the KV-5, a collapsed wooden bridge and about 2 dozen Germans frolicking around it. Seems like I haven't learned anything from the Tiger/Sherman combo

The thought had crossed my mind.

The thing would have been too massive to tow and prone to breaking down. I could easily see the thing being abandoned by more than one crew as the battlefield lines moved back and forth.

I think I will move forward with this as a Beute but not sure how much rework I want this to have. Beutes didn't last very long given issues with spare parts plus recovery would be a serious problem.

I'm tempted to get the voyager PE fender set as I just don't have any luck making damage in plastic fenders look convincing.

You could make a what-if zbV 66 vehicle. They got lots of weird stuff for the proposed invasion of Malta, including KV-1, KV-2 and T-34 M39 and M40. You'd need some Notek and position lights as seen on the early Panzers, then paint the whole thing in DAK colours...

I was reading about that unit the other day. Tankograds book on Beute T-34s is very extensive and discusses units that used T-34s and if those units had KV-1s and 2s.

I wonder how it would look in PanzerGrey. ;)

I like the grey scheme. They did the same with some of the Churchills captured st Dieppe: http://www.beutepanzer.ru/Beutepanzer/u ... hill-1.htm

I wouldn't use dark yellow, I highly doubt this thing would have stuck around until 1943
