The horrible coloured ones, a big improvement over the horrible black and white ones

Concerning Revell colours (apologies for hijacking this thread to debate such mundane matters), they are actually fairly good for brush painting once mixed with Tamiya thinner. I haven't dared using them in the Airbrush however.

Evening gents

Had to read my own blog to remember where I am

Link and length tracks, feel the shared pain with all the old kits and OOTB builds,

but I shall first satisfy the paint enquiry

Image
Image

in colour and fairly innocuous for anyone who has access to the interweb for references

The paints smell like acrylic, the glue smells lovely

Image

The tracks, now I have joined the "what the F#£$ are Tiger tracks about?" Club :?

The individual tracks have flash over all 4 hinge gates
Image

and they are on!!

after some serious profanity, which I am trying to avoid along with biscuits, chocolate and cake for Lent

1/2 way
Image

all done
Image
Image

Once they are all set, there is a little more on the tub, then onto the AFV sturmtiger top 1/2.

There maybe a warm up in the weather some time, which will allow some primer, but no time soon :(

I shall just have to start the soft skin GB next, then plan out new idea for the 14-18 GB too.

Update this week too Raoul, take care both of you

Thanks for popping by

regards

Very nice progress Steve! It's of no relevance to this build but I should add that the decal option "231" is from the 502nd, not the 505th. Gotta love Revell's research....

I guess you have to cut off a bit from the front edges of the superstructure to fit the Sturmtiger upper hull?

Looks like the regular Revell acrylics - they're fine... no, I mean, they're okay, not fine because => extremely thick( ), put them somewhere and use them for figures or something brush painted... and use thinner ;).

Fine work on the l&l tracks, those are always annoying, aren't they?

231... note the little mammoth... Revell research indeed...
And of course it's khaki...yea...right...I must have gotten that wrong and ill-informed as I evidently am gone straight for Dunkelgelb... force of habit I suppose   *ironymodeoff*

That's the same kit if bought in a Zvezda box btw. ;) .

Best regards

Hi Chaps

Just a little progress, its been a snowed up no modelling week and just a little done, over the weekend

Yes Philipp, there will be a little cut and shunt to get the top and bottom to mate, but we will get there ;)

I have the Zvezda tiger too Raoul  8-)

The rear deck is a good starting place, as I am mating the rear deck of a late model and putting it onto a mid production base.

Thankfully there is a over abundance of references.

Image

The central back opening panel has a folding stop but it is in the wrong place, I have moved it from the little white scar on the right, to the correct central position, Diagram E on the above chart.

Image

Next, the citadel, and after some serious head scratching, it does hang over the sides

Image

and all the track hangers need filling and the open vision opening on the front needs to be leveled too.

Image
Image
Image

The front end will need just little work but the oblique armour fits nicely

Image

Overall it will need some enhancing of the welds and I shall deepen the casting on the citadel, with a dremel, as it is iron rather than armour plating

Image

Hopefully more next weekend

Regards

Nice progress Steve!

How does the AFV Club hull compare to the Revell hull? I honestly can't imagine there would be much differences in overall dimensions.

Very nice progress on this, and a great subject!

So not knowing the differences at all... Why are you using the AFV citadel on the Revell Hull?

Thanks Vincent, its fun, when I can get to my desk.

The two tubs are pretty much the same size Philipp, not sure what I'll do with the redundant AFV one though.

Dave, the SturmTiger prototype was built with an iron citadel, on an early production, rubber tyred, disc wheeled Tiger I, from a December 1942 production run.

The production run of 19 SturmTigers used the late production steel wheeled Tigers as a base, which is the AFV kit.

As the prototype hasn't been kitted by any manufacturer yet, it requires a kit bash, and is all the more fun for it.

Perhaps like my Stug III "0", someone will release the kit, once I have finished!

HTH's?
