Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
So lets conduct a little test:
These are 8mm cork leftovers from work, I'll see how they look eventually in grey and aged, if they turn out "meh" I'll have to cast something from plaster.
Best regards

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
First of all: sorry Shawn, I overlooked your message because mine opened the second page .
I have to concur with you in regards to matting everything down... it's almost a shame - I think the same thought might be behind the idea that drives some people to add all kinds of etch and multi media and NOT paint the model after that.
I have decided to have the Whippet having passed the obstacle before the observer.
I think the whole cork thing might work out, I "brushed" some filler onto it and will later trim this down a bit once dry.
Here's the prospective setup =>
And here's some further progress (and perspective weirdness )=>
(also built the figure, head once the painting commences)
Best regards

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
And on we go!
Here's the current state of the Whippet:
It now at long last has it's exhausts with grey "asbestos" wrapping and everything is matted down... the string that "holds" the weird platform contraption still needs to dry out completely to be painted and cut.
Here's the dio base, some minor progress done, much left to do!
And here's the officer (only started...err... I know that's...kind of visible... ) he has the old antebellum M1907 uniform with all kinds of ornaments and red piping as well as the blue-ish-er officer's breeches with puttees as the only apparent concession to the reality of this war (aside from the added pockets on the tunic) not much else differentiates this bloke from an officer in , say, 1910.
Luckily some of the insignia and effects remained unchanged through the World Wars (really up to the current day) and this you will see some of my beloved rank insignia decals on this gentleman.
Best regards

The Whippet looks great Raoul. I like the layout for the base too and good work on the figure as usual.

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
Thanks Vincent!
I powdered the whole in a mixture of pigments and added some grass tufts (more to come) and some leftover masonry of indefinite function, it's just for the looks (but it's made up of standard imperial pattern sized bricks... yes German bricks where standardised and yes there are 35th scale versions of them... ).
The whole will receive a layer of turpentine tomorrow to both fix them and lessen the optical impact of the pigments.
Best regards

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
Thanks Steve!
More minor progress=>
Some minor vegetation additions and several really small things like single bricks.
Also went ahead and fixed the pigments which made the whole coat of dust a bit less intense as intended.
However while working there was a terrible accident... blame the Tommy!
(this happened when I the table accidentally received a minor nudge and it immediately looked so extremely macabre-funny I just had to post it... blame my sick sense of humour... )
Best regards

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
So here we are, pretty much finished though there are some areas that still annoy me:
Exempli gratia I had masked the frame to keep it from getting painted... of course the tape I used ripped some off it's wood-look veneer so I sprayed everything gunmetal with a wash of engine grease... looks "meh" in my opinion though...
Anyhow - here's the thing, suggestions, especially regarding the frame, are welcome!
Best regards

Re: Meng Mk. A Whippet
A severe learning curve regarding tape Raoul
I have found even low tack tamiya tape will stick to everything and anything you don't want it to, and never to what you do!
Still looks good and its finished too, so well done for getting across that line.
Will you start piecing together your tapestry of WWI?
Regards
Steve H
