Finally settled on some colour matches that should weather to the right shades. I've gone with a late WWI scheme that persisted right through to the 1940's.

Image

Decals are on, plus a couple of coats of satin varnish so should start with the external weathering and chipping this weekend.

Major progress this weekend. Filters on, streaking grime and rust added over chipping and final assembly started.

Still have to paint the leather straps for the tool stowage and complete the exhaust/muffler. The tail also needs a little work to get it to sit right.

The picture frame is the start of a base, got a wee scenario in mind to explain why the vehicle has been abandoned with all hatches open ;)

Looking stunning there Adam! :D
I really like the look with all the hatches open!
It has a slightly "insectoid" look like a cute little bug ;) .

Recently, through the magic of YouTube, I have discovered the VMS range of modelling supplies. The Pigments in particular are very good and come in coarse, fine or pure consistency in each colour. You can also turn the pure into coarse or fine with additives if you want. They also provide a range of pigment binders that are designed to be workable for up to 9hrs after application.

Image

Rather than the traditional "apply pigment, add pigment adhesive of your choice", you apply the pigments wet but they dry hard and are then workable for a period. The binder also doesn't change the shade of the pigment unlike some other ranges. You can also get binders that will set with a gloss or "wet" effect, but I've used Matt here for dried mud.

Initial application....

Dry with hair dryer and start working...

Still a work in progress, the advantage is I can now go over the top with a fine pigment as a wash to blend out the edges. Will post finished product tonight..... ;)

Morning Adam

That looks very interesting, another type of pigments with flexibility in use :o

They do look very nice already, can't wait for the update ;)

Thanks for sharing

Thanks Steve, I've kind've overdone it a bit, but as it dries it's looking more natural. I'm pretty sure these little guys got pretty dirty anyway :D

My biggest problem is that the mud I've used on the base is much darker so I'll need to do some work to get it to blend in.

Still drying, but here we are...

Still need to add a bit of gunmetal pigment to a couple of the raised edges, but to all intents and purposes it's done.

Working on a figure from a MB set. I'm not really a figure painter, but you gotta start somewhere!

Thanks Vincent,

The VMS pigments have been very easy to work with and I am very pleased that they have a number of textures which mean they look more like mud rather than dust!

Amazing, all of it! :D

This is an excellent inspiration for my St Chamond, once I finally get around to continue with it...
