Thanks Raoul

They will be very useful, we need to organise an exchange of "stuff" soon!

I am hoping Plan B will get a re boot soon, as I can not avoid painting heads for very much longer

I have some basic black, white & grey enamels, coming from e-bay, just to get me by!

Your selection looks like a good range for future projects ;)

An update, I have dug out the static grass and dispenser from the garage

The cameras

The cine camera was 11 pieces :o

Recognize these 2, the best I could do!

Time to dust off the wet palette and brushes, I think!!

More soon?

Another update :o

This may not be sustainable, but here we go, again

Road side surface done with polyfiller, spackle or whatever the local product is called ;)

Why? When you have a perfectly good sheet of plastic?

It creates a realistic surface and allows accessories to be inserted/buried and is a great base for different finishes too 8-)

Specialist tools for surface prep

Next the grassy bank base

The shared diagonal edge is taped to allow removal after drying for grass laying
ImageAnd the "soil" on
Image

I have never done this before, so I have no idea about drying times?

Static grass next on the removable section

Once the gloss enamels arrive I can add the cover slips and texture the tarmac too 8-)

The figures are progressing nicely, as I arrived an hour early for work and invested the time wisely 8-)

More soon

And another one!

The claycrete base is still wet!

Some white bits showing through!

I shall just have to wait!

Image

Starting to get the paint ready too, can't avoid it much longer.

One of the best uniform Vallejo colour references has been sabotaged by the PhotoBucket farrago, so what are the best options for British uniform?

here we go

What are the best colours?

Any ideas anyone?

More tomorrow?

Hopefully

Hey Steve, i think you are enjoying this!? Making a base is good fun, especially if you are building it from scratch. Definitely being creative like your signature line says ;)

Like where you are going with this :D

Using gloss paints is a good idea. You don't have to add a clear gloss for your washes then. Which is, i assume, why you are using gloss paints?

You are getting a move on with this Steve. :) Base looks good too. Next task is painting the figures which you'll enjoy. Good work. ;)

NOTE TO SELF

don't make the claycrete mix so WET!!!

It still hasn't set!

day three and still tacky to the touch, very frustrating, but for a first attempt, I shall learn from my mistakes

It is a great and very mouldable base layer, just not so easy to get to the next step when wet, or tacky

Gloss, Woody?

The book says to use gloss enamels?

It was published in 2013, so acrylics were available, I think the gloss will provide the adhesive for the grit,

you can use ash, chinchilla dust, or talc, I shall use talc.

Some of the swatches the book has

I hope to take the next steps on the journey of discovery over the next few days, which are a long weekend off work

I have another reference for the Churchill uniform, which will help bring a little contrast to what may become a sea of Khaki drab

Image

Almost a beige!

More soon, once I have done all the other jobs Anna has lined up for me!

Thanks for popping by Vincent and Mark

More soon?

Really interesting things going on here Steve!
I especially like the diorama stuff you're doing! :D

The Churchill uniform gives me some irritation - it's a Captain's uniform? Is this his uniform from the territorials?
He was a Captain of the Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars there... but he also was a Major of the 6th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers in the Great War?
Or is there a crown and two stars? That would make it a Colonel but he was breveted only to Lieutenant-Colonel ...? :?:

I'm confused.. but then.. he was a head of government at this point so... who cares? ;)

Me too Raoul

As a national hero/treasure we should know much more about him!

I got it from the interweb, and have no idea of what where who when?

The medal bars looked about right, but that was about as much as I thought!

Nearly all the late war colour photos are with Churchill in an RAF uniform,

I will use a Khaki drab but with a little more Olive green to add a different colour shade

I shall try to paint all the figures in different shades of the same basic colour palette,
the Soldier/paparazzi will be drab, the director and assistant will be slightly different but again same palette

Then onto the min actors, I have just seen the medal bars are moulded in, but the are decals to get the right effect.

I shall have to scrape them off, so the decals will sit properly, that's the cunning plan ;)

The grassy bank cum chocolate pudding is still slightly tacky, so I hve detached it from thr frame.

Not to self for the next one!

Don't respray the frame until you have done all the "wet" work!

I have primed the road and will start the texturing once the primer is dry.

Can't really avoid the figure painting much longer!!

More tomorrow, hopefully.

Need better references too

Thanks for keeping on the straight and narrow, Raoul

regards
