Oh, I forgot to mention the update. There isn't an update. Well, not much of one anyway.
I've been busy cleaning up the sub assemblies and researching the details I want to add. Unfortunately for me, researching equals time not building.
Hope to have a worthwhile update shortly.

I've been steadily working through adding some details to the chassis. I'm using Mengs bolt sets which I think are just great. It's slow going though as there is a ton of additions I want to add down there. Why am I adding details to the chassis of a train which most likely won't be seen in the end? Great question. If anybody has the answer please let me know No pics as yet, after all it's just bolts and stuff.

In that case, here you are I can see I need to do more to blend the reshaping of the connecting arms( the green stuff) They should be smoother.
It doesn't look like I've done much but selecting appropriate bolt sizes and types according to my research is time consuming. Fun, but time consuming.
There are more pipes and stuff to add along the chassis to make it a bit busier.

Nice start so far, definitely worth posting

I see the issue on the coupling rods - to my knowledge these were forged as a single piece, so everything should be fairly smooth. Not sure if you need any more references but this picture might help

Thanks Philipp. Yes, that view is definitely helpful, thanks. I will have to keep working on the rods. As you can see I haven't made a lot of progress but I think it's worth adding detail on the chassis and wheels. Although it's a simple enough kit there is so much room for improvement. The plan though is not to get carried away with too much detail. The overall effect is more important in this case as you know.

Sorry for the lack of an update Chaps.
I have been busy but there has not been much to see............until now!
I'm been beavering away on the details Trumpeter left off the chassis and I found out that they were quite time consuming. There are some large indentations underneath which look out of place so I filled them with plastic sheet. You can see the large white areas in the pics and the scratchbuilt pipes and associated mechanical bits that dump sand around the wheels for traction. I think all of this piping will come up a treat with some shading, washes and weathering.
I also made a start on the engine access panel. The kit part is moulded in one piece but the real thing is two seperate panels that open outward for maintenance. I cut the kit piece in half and added the internal strengthening bars. Unfortunately I didn't have any suitable sized L shaped plastic so I had to make it with thin plastic sheet. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The good news is that I think the build will move a lot faster now.

Some very impressive scratchbuilding

It seems Trumpeter didn't quite do their homework on this one...oh well, if they did they would have picked the much more common WR360 C14 instead

It's looking great Vincent, a loco should give you tons of scope for extreme weathering!

Thanks Philipp. I agree with you about the choice Trumpeter made. The C14 makes far more sense.
