The engine and mechanicals have been installed permanently into the chassis. I've added the pipes and connections as well.

This view perhaps gives a better look at the additional pipes I included. I feel these details give a nice complicated look to this area, plus they visually connect all the elements together. I should point out that where some of the pipes seem to go nowhere or stop abruptly, this area will be invisible once the bodywork goes on. :)

Finally, some close ups shots

Next should be placing the body onto the chassis. :)

Vincent

Hold on, 2020 was two years ago, wasn't it? No? :?

No matter how long it took, I'm glad you're back on this build :D

All those pipes and tubes really make a big difference, I gues OOTB there is very little? And the weathering is just the icing on the cake, it ties everything together really well

Thanks Philipp.

The aftermarket engine has none of the pipes and wiring I could see in the references I used, so I had to scratch them myself. It was challenging at times trying to work out where each of them started and finished, but in the end, I think it was worth the effort. :)

I'm working on the chassis and driving wheels at the moment and should have a small update soon. Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Vincent

Another update for you all. The Pre Base Coat shading is done, ready for the next stage. :)
The body is only dry fitted at this stage so I can guage the overall effect of the shading. The roof is off kilter because it's a little warped but I am confident it will pull into shape with a little pressure and glue. ;)

Thanks Bryan :)

The painting process continues. :) I deliberately left off quite a few of the smaller parts so as not to damage them during the painting stage. Things like doors, handles, windows and lights will be added when the majority of the weathering is complete. ;)
I've followed my usual method for weathering. This update covers the mapping process that follows the Pre Base coats.

You can see how the streaking and blocking of certain areas will give me a map for the weathering effects that follow. All of this work is done in various shades of gray. The roof, as you can see, has been started.
The picture below shows how I follow the previous work when adding the dirt, grime and rust colours.

Of course, this is just the start of the process. :)

Some more progress :)
Over several sessions, I slowly built up the colour layers until I was happy with the result. Starting with oils, I mixed several gray shades to give some variation to the flat surfaces, I followed this with various rusty tones for the streaking and light chipping. The cabin received a light coat of dust streaking which will be continued on to the rest of the Locomotive. I'm at the staring stage now. I find that after a few hours of oil painting, I like to sit back and stare at a model to understand what areas need extra attention or repair. ;)
This is where I am at the moment.

Just to be clear, the body is not attached yet and the cabin interior isn't installed either. There is still a lot to do.
The next steps won't be as dramatic as this post, I'm sure :D
Back to the bench, I need to stare some more.
