Thanks Raoul & Shawn! :)

I've slowed down considerably since I'm back to work. I've encountered some slight issues with the photoetch fender brackets that go onto this one. While they aren't the usual face-hardened Mithril I've come to expect from Hobby Boss, they are instead horribly soft and bend everywhere, except for the lines where they are supposed to.

And of course I've also been obsessing over adding a diorama base with some crew and paratroopers somewhere on Malta.......I have a feeling I won't be finished with this one in time for the deadline, so I might focus on the M24 for a while instead.... :?

Slowly making progress...all that's left to add now is the large stowage box on the rear right fender and a jerrycan rack right in front of it. I also reworked the weld seams, which were flush rather than the huge trenches on the kit parts.

Image

Another little addition are etched handles for the tool clasps, the lazy option for people who really don't like to assemble workable PE clasps... :?

Image

On one of the headlights I added a blackout cover made from lead foil, while the other headlight is broken and missing the glass and reflector. I'll test the acrylic water method another time :P

Image

The extra stowage box comes from Tamiya's early jerrycan set, which also includes a few useful other items like the Notek light.

Thanks Vincent :)

Speaking of which, I think the additions are all in place now...

Sheet styrene, Tamiya jerrycans and some leftover photoetch...I hope it looks halfway decent once the paint is on :?

Oh well, the antenna was still missing...fixed that :)

The kit comes with a decent 1.4 m antenna, but using one by RB Model was a lot easier than cleaning up the attachment points:

As for the surrondings, I've got a little scene planned with some Fallschirmjägers. Operation Herkules was, after all, scheduled to be the largest airborne assault of all times.

The ingredients:

Image

Most likely I'll be using one or two of the sitting fellows. Maybe also the commander, depending on if he fits inside the cupola.

Image

From these I'll be adding the NCO, with all the other folks on it this might get too large.

Image

I also got these Archer transfers for the turret numbers. ZbV 66 used fairly narrow two-digit numbers in Russia, so it's only fair to assume they would have done so on Malta as well. In addition I'm fairly sure they were already in place back in Germany.

This is the only clear photo of a II J with a number in place:

Also note the Panzer I F on the right:

No idea if they were black or red, I've seen both on colour plates and decal sheets. Opinions are most welcome

Nice progress on a tiny little vehicle. Looks like a solid OOB kit.

Thanks Bryan! :)

Certainly room for improvement, but in the end it's not that bad.

I've assembled the first figure:

Nice Philipp. I can imagine the guys disappointment when that little thing turned up. As for the numbers I also have no idea but I would go with red simply for the colour it will bring. :)

Thanks :D

I'm going to build my Panzer IV F2 for the zbV 66 as well, so the poor sods will eventually get some proper armor

I agree with the red, most of all because it doesn't seem dark enough for black on the photos. :)
