Re: Tamiya Wespe
I thought so too Woody
Though perhaps 41/42, with an older, Pz I Flak snowed up and grounded in a drift
For me, anyway
Have a go Vincent, your recent foray into figures shows you have what it takes, just more blue and red washes on the faces to show how cold it is
The interior of the Wespe is superb

It just great all around Vincent. The interior is amazing and I love the winter paint scheme.

Re: Tamiya Wespe
Thanks Guys. I'm pretty happy with how the camo has turned out.
It is unusual Philipp, that's what I was going for.
Those figures would work well Woody, thanks for the heads up. Might have to pick those up.
The scene you described would be great Steve. I think snow is difficult to do properly though.
Glad you like it Shawn.

Looking mighty good there Vincent!
I really like Steve's suggestion - would look certainly look magnificent and really add a feel of "eastern front hopeless winter" - the (not entirely wrong mind you in the central and northern parts of the front) usual cliché you know... in a good way!
Looking forward to what you do with it!
Best regards

Thanks Raoul. I definately like the idea but the figures aren't released yet and I kind of want to wrap this up soon. Could be a possible project for another time though.Raoul Kunz wrote:Looking mighty good there Vincent!

Re: Tamiya Wespe
I've spent the last few sessions at the bench painting the figures. As this seems to be the start of a foray into figures I thought it made sense to buy a face painting set from Vallejo and a Field Grey Uniform set from AK. The Vallejo paint is nice while the jury is still out on the AK stuff.
After painting for a while, I felt I had made some progress with the technique, mixed with a liberal dose of frustration I might add and I ended up with these two fellows. The camera betrays all the errors so it's not my friend
The first I've named Mr Frozen..... and the second is Mr Relaxed..... Finally a sneak peak of them with the Wespe. ( Not the final positioning of course.) That's all for now. Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Vincent

Re: Tamiya Wespe
Very nice Vincent, very nice indeed
The Vallejo set is good, I use it myself, I had tried the scale 75 set, but it is very complicated and not as straight forward
I haven't got any AK sets yet.
The field grey looks OK, what was the difficulty?
Adam, have you tried the AK flesh set yet?
it looks very similar to the Vallejo one?
Looking good and great progress too
Regards

Re: Tamiya Wespe
Thanks Adam and Steve.
The "problem" with the AK set is more than likely my fault. I think that the Vallejo paint seems to flows much nicer from the brush and is ready to use after a few shakes of the bottle. The AK product on the other hand always seems to be asleep and you have to shake it vigorously every time to get it to work. To me it's "thicker" than the Vallejo paint and not as friendly to use though I did get into a rythym in the end. Like I said, it's probably just a result of my inexperience with the paint and the technique required to get a decent result. Hopefully I'll get better the more I use the AK paint.

Re: Tamiya Wespe
Hi Vincent
Could agitators help in the AK bottles?
You can get steel or glass balls but I actually got stainless steel hex nuts after researching the problem.
Why?
More surfaces to agitate, a sphere is too regular, a hex nut has lots of uneven surfaces to break up the thicker lumps of pigment.
Does AK have a glaze medium, like Vallejo?
it is great to thin out thick paint and use as a glaze medium too, it is made of the same formula as the paint, so it gives a better suspension of pigment when thinning,it is much better than just plain water.
Practice is the last part of the formula too, but your work is already getting there and certainly well on the way, I took a year to get this far, and am still learning.
Keep at it
