Re: Heuschrecke IVb, "Grasshopper"
Rogue One was worth the wait to see
So sad but a very well presented film
Anna had already seen it, and I can concur, you will need to see it twice, at least, to put into context the preamble, setting the scene,
so you can fully engage with the last hour
Superb
Update, and something different for me, the MiniArt building, and specifically the double staircase
The main building is 4 pieces, outer and inner pieces for the long and short walls
A weekends work produced this
2 long runs of steps, each made of 2 shorter runs, each step has to be trimmed by 9 mm, a double landing and a single landing, and very carefully removing all the hand rails, then repairing the 2 that got broken
It has been a significant Quantity improvement for my modelling
Also undercoated the engine bay and the inner surfaces of the main tank tub, before installing the interior, so a fairly successful weekend of modelling
It seems Anna's new date for surgery, will fly past
The NHS seems to be having a winter crisis, which is impacting on schedule operations, so "emergencies only" are the order of the day.
She has had a couple of "grumbling" moments, but no real relapse yet
More to come this week, hopefully
Modelling, not intestinal twisting

Re: Heuschrecke IVb, "Grasshopper"
Very nice choice of diorama material there Steve!
I was initially intimidated by Miniart's vacuformed buildings but even years back they went together really nice - and I wasn't even making vacuformed items at work myself back then - it's surprisingly simple really .
Really looking forward to seeing you tackle something larger - I only did a little wall, but I have a couple of bigger vacuformed Miniart buildings here awaiting their deployment and use in their boxes .
...
....
.....
Feels familiar... I had wait for my surgery too for a while... though the worst was the wait once they actually had me in hospital since they rescheduled the procedure twice even then but kept me on minimum food all the time - breakfast of a single 200ml of yoghurt and a blank slice of bread for four days in a row...only breakfast, nothing else - felt a bit like cliché medieval dungeon food wise - "here's your water and bread!" ...
But you're right - Rogue One was oh so very nice - a Star Wars film that was actually a war flick! Star Wars is usually high fantasy but this felt a lot a more like "The Dirty Dozen" - though it's pretty neat to see a certain evil space wizard demonstrate how "magic" would feel to troops caught in regular war .
- again: Strength for Anna and you! - I really wish you wouldn't need it to such a degree (and maybe you hopefully don't), but oh well... medicinal procedure...
Best regards
Raoul G. Kunz

Exactly Thank you for finding the right phrase, for how the film came acrossRaoul Kunz wrote:Rogue One felt a lot a more like "The Dirty Dozen" -
The MiniArt building is still very intimidating, even now! The staircase is a "normal" modeling stage
Tidying up the seams on the handrails is becoming a real labour of love, but we all know seams "pop" under primer
More this weekend

Good luck with the building! My last experience with one of these is long past, but I don't think they've become much easier since

NO they have not.
Glad to see you building again Steve. It does not seem you took my recommendation and just build something simple to get the mojo back. That's alright. I am certainly not practicing what I was preaching, with my Mama Can I dio. It has grown and changed significantly.

Re: Heuschrecke IVb, "Grasshopper"
Hi Shawn
what could be simpler than 2 walls with 2 sides each
Some internal supports around the doors and windows, seems this will help both to glue and align everything
some filler to add "weight" and stability
Now the fun begins, joining the 2 halves
This is serious, as I have bought a frame for a base too
This week I shall try to complete the 2 tier fire escape, it will require lots of pinning both to the building and the stairs to the landings
The rails are very fragile too!
finally some gratuitous shots of what might eventually be a scenario!
More next weekend, though I am working Saturday!
Thanks for popping by
and good luck with your GB's

You definitely have all the components for a stunning diorama
Even the Miniart building seems easy enough

It looks good Steve. I have tried several different ways to assembly these things and I have not came up with a great solution yet.Philipp Gross wrote:You definitely have all the components for a stunning diorama

Phillip- Looks can be deceiving. They are not easy.

Re: Heuschrecke IVb, "Grasshopper"
Not much of a building week, sadly
In an attempt to keep the building and modelling fires smoldering, this project does have
multiple items of very different types, so I have scribed an assembled one of the two American patrol
it needs priming, but as I paint in the garage an the past week has been sub zero, it ain't happening just yet
The peanut gallery is Plan B, if I dare jink it, I was hoping to have them done by Easter!
But as the "hairy sticks" are still in the drawer, it might be a challenge
Nil desperandum
As for the building walls, they were a little out of alignment, even with the inner pieces, so I have rendered all the inner door and window casements,
with superglue and filler, time now for some serious filing, which will be mechanized, with a cheap nail tech dremil.
The usual MiniArt "pips", have morphed into weird circular things, and there are loads of them!
I have been over all 4 walls several times and still keep finding them
Hopefully some primer this weekend as it will be above zero, but wet and windy here.
I have joined the hand rails together for the fire escape, they really are fragile
More this week, hopefully
Regards
