ShM-120 PRAM

Hi all,
ready for a new start in 2017. My entry in the campaign is a rare variant of the BMP named ShM-120 PRAM which was in service with the Czechoslovak army then the Czech and Slovak ones after the separation.

The resin kit (with some PE bits) was produced by Panzershop and is now out of production.

It comes in a large cardboard box with foam chips and bubble wrap plastic to protect the parts but you will see that it was not sufficient. As usual with Panzershop, you have some highs and some lows. The lows are the number of recast parts from the Dragon BMP, even some wrong ones like the sprockets and the lack of details in some areas. The highs are some very fine original parts and an original model.

As the sprockets are wrong, I decided to use the Master Club indy links tracks which come with the new type of sprocket. I jsut fear that there will be not enough links to complete the extended runs so I'll save some Panzershop links for the less visible areas.

I don't know if I'll start gluing parts on 1st January but for sure I'll have to repair the broken parts. See the picture. The kit hull also has 4 roadwheel mounting pins broken and one simply missing. A bit of clean up is required as with every resin kit.

Apart from these annoying things, the kit is sometimes simplified in some areas and will need a bit of detailing. So wish me luck

Good luck, you'll need it

If Gary were still among us he'd build the kit by replacing 90% of it with brass and sheet styrene :P

Pity about the broken parts Olivier, it looks like it's going to take a bit of work to join that top deck and rescribe the panel lines. Very unusual and interesting subject, will follow your build with interest as I've never attempted a purely rein kit :D

Good luck with this kit Olivier. I've never built a resin kit and those broken pieces would be too much for me.

Cheers,

Don't worry about the broken parts. The break is "clean" so it should not be too hard to fix the parts.
I'll start this build by repairing the parts, pictures soon ;)

Don't envy you starting with a repair Olivier

I am sure it wont hold you up for too long ;)

Interesting subject too :D

You're right Steve but the worst is not the breaks which are already fixed but breaks in the molds which caused resin leakage on a great number of parts creating large mold seams.
I'll try to do my best with thisk it. Fortunately I got it cheap :D

Well,
it's time to start this build. As I previoulsy wrote I first had to glue the broken parts. So nothing amazing so far
One roadwheel pin is still missing. I'll have to make one when time comes. As you may notice, the lower hull is a recast of the Dragon hull which has been extended.
Some glue spots need some sanding too. A couple of air bubbles have to be filled.

Good thing these broke so clean!

I guess taking the mortar parts and mounting them on a new BMP kit wouldn't be much easier?

Nope, because Panzershop didn't simply recast Dragon parts, they also fixed mistakes of the original kit. Look at the access hatch right of the driver hatch. On the original kit, it was mis-placed by Dragon.

In fact, I am more worried about the sturdiness of the roadwheel arms and their capacity to support the weight of the resin hull.
