Done! 4 hours 15 minutes from box of sprues to paint ready.


I'll have to get it home for the airbrush. (I've looked into bringing an airbrush on the road. But it's just not practical.)

Its amazing how fast these old kits go together.

6 days on the road and on to the paint bench we go!

I'm using a new kind of paint!

If you've been watching the various forums, you will have noticed this brand moving to the forefront quickly. I bought 3 colors just to see how it goes. I'm pretty sure this is a true lacquer, unlike Tamiya which is some sort of unicorn blood - between a lacquer and alcohol base. Mr. Color is ready to spray straight from the bottle. It sprays beautifully and behaves very predictably. The downside is the strong smell which is an exact match for nail polish. (I actually think this stuff is really nothing more than well formulated nail polish.) I have learned that it will mix without any trouble with a drop or two of Tamiya if you wish to tweak the base color.


Since this build is more about fun and less about a perfect model I've decided to give a try to the technique with hard-edged highlights. (I don't remember what the technique is called. but there is a name for it.)










So there we are. I'll get the major components installed over the next couple of days and finish up with some mild weathering.

What's the time limit to finish? Is there a date?
