Would some opinions on painting my 25pdr, in particular the limber. Poking around on the net has dug up some opinions that the interior of the limber may have been retained the original european khaki green (khaki green No.3?).

I am thinking this would be good for the deep interior of the limber, but i am wondering wether the inside of the limber doors could be painted green too for a bit of interest? I have looked at a load of period photos and can't find and decent angles showing the limber doors. Most restored limbers show the desert colour (middle stone?)and all built models i have seen get painted in that colour too.

But, i have found one photo that has my interest...(photo courtesy of Google, and obviously the IWM)



Your opinions please! Could the inside of that door be painted khaki green? Probably a bit sun bleached, but comparing to the rest of the paint on the limber and gun, it looks darker. Compare to the khaki jumper the gun crewman has on and gear and clothing on the ground too. It would sure make an interesting paint diversion/contrast in the overall desert scheme.

A little fading and chipping and it will be a strong contrast to the faded, sun bleached stone exterior.

If it can't be proved, it can't be disproved either

Yeah, i am leaning very much to your way of thinking. A good dose of fading, a bit of dust in the recesses would blend it in i think.

You should definitely do it. There are more important things than repainting the inside of ammo locker doors when the enemy has just advanced 500 miles in your direction. I'm sure quite a lot of equipment wasn't precisely painted according to regulations in 1941-42.

I agree too. It definitely looks darker. Call it artistic licence.
