Chevrolet CMP 15 cwt truck 1975
The Airfix Rescue launch would have taken too long and I didn't want to rush that
This is an armour site (primarily)
The Airfix Angel Interceptor is now in short supply and consequently far too expensive
Soooo, it's this little baby that was originally released in 1975 under the Peerless Max brand and since then has been passed to Airfix, Bilek and Italeri
There's a version out from IBG so it's time to sacrifice this.
The Breda is a recent add-on so I shan't include that.
The sprues don't really show their vintage
First impressions are favourable and the tarp is really NOT at all bad - it would put many a modern one to shame.
At this point I freely acknowledge the inspiration that Andy Moore's build has provided....

His treatment of the tarp alone is wonderful and I remain in awe of his finishing skills
I've attempted to build this in 24 hours and essentially failed. There is a considerable amount of flash and clean up has taken longer than is usual. however fit is good and detail well beyond what I expected. This must have been a revelation in 1975
So with 'Young Americans', Steely Dan and Disco as an accompanying soundtrack I'll just present the images for 24 hours progress...
Another couple of hours should see it finished

Nice choice of subject
Italeri is always good for a surprise, be it good or bad. Most of their 70's kits are masterpieces of engineering. It went steeply downhill from there, but it looks like they've been improving considerably during the last decade.

Cracking stuff Rob
the photos of the finish one are stunning, and I am confident you can match it too.
Very nice work

Despite its age the level of detail on the kit looks cracking, especially the stitching on the tarp.
I'm a serial kit starter....

I really have no choice but to echo the rest here and confess my significant surprise with the quality and detail, especially - you've guessed it - the tarp! .
It doesn't show the signs of radical simplification the Tamiya tanks three people (including me, duh!) here are building (okay, technically just two, Philipp's is a StuG ) display.
And there I was thinking that "back then" "they" just couldn't do better...
Best regards

What a great little kit Rob! Good to see someone do something other than Tamiya, and i stand guilty as charged in that respect
Simple but nicely detailed, and in your good hands it will be a real gem when finished
That Andy Moore did an amazing job on the Tamiya Quad too..... https://www.flickr.com/photos/61490450@ ... otostream/

Re: Chevrolet CMP 15 cwt truck 1975
Thanks for looking in Fellas
I couldn't rip off All of Andy Moore's work but he finished the tarp so logically it's hard not to. I'm going to settle with leaving the stitched window flaps but cut one out..
In true 70's kit tradition - the tailgate drops on hinges
I undercut the rear tarp
So much for a day's build - Fitting the doors took a whole evening This is where the kit shows it's pedigree
Eventually the doors needed building up with plastic strips
The roof hatch was a minor shocker - with 2 well placed mold marks
The files have had a work out
But Hurrah - tonight I got to this - 95% finished
Primer and paint soon
Rob
Hi Shawn - I'm going to be doing a Desert Sand (Light Stone 61) plain scheme with G3 beneath using HS technique (I'm not sure that's in the spirit of the 70's )Shawn Ramsey wrote:Rob- This is going to be great. That tarp is great and wow seeing Andy Moore's build.

Re: Chevrolet CMP 15 cwt truck 1975
I'm repeating myself here, but that looks absolutely excellent - much more like 2007 than 1977. Even though modern kits wouldn't even bother with a tarp and force you to get a resin piece for twice the price of the original kit.
I know the Breda gun is out, but will you have it tow something?
