Re: Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf. D 1977
Don't worry about the plastic sheet Pille - I'll just try to get the exposed track links some proper guide teeth.. probably won't work out anyway .
And good to hear that plastic sheet logically has been around roughly the time I supposed Steve!
I suppose it's the liberating experience of having constructed a meta-reason to justify why the lack of detail is the whole point - kind of historicist approach .
Anyway, I started on the base =>
Let's see what I can legitimately add to the base...
Best regards

Re: Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf. D 1977
I still need to do a couple of things, I'm currently working on the muddy base... I did only three dioramas so far and I'm totally freaked out without most of the diorama building gimmicks ... and no resin cats!!! =>
I'm extremely tempted to add a couple of grass clusters, but I'm really uncertain since when they are available to the modeller... research didn't come up with anything - anyone who has lived (and been modelling ) in the 70s and 80s? I've been certainly alive in the 80s.... but not exactly caring about model grass nodes .
Anyway - I suppose it also works as a muddy field immediately after the rain .
Best regards

Raoul, Shep Paine explains about ground cover in How to Build Dioramas and one of the things he specifically talks about doing is making grass clumps, so, using the pre-made ones might be cheating for this, but, you could make them yourself if you've got static grass around. Or, in true 70s fashion, buy a shaving brush and cut the bristles off to make the grass.
On a different note, any thought to changing the top of the fence posts? To my eye, their origin is pretty apparent. Overall they look really nice, I just think the round tops are a bit of a give away. (Now that I've said that, you'll likely produce a period picture showing a fence exactly like what you've built and I'll look and feel like an idiot.)
Anyway, nice job on this and I like how it is coming together.

Re: Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf. D 1977
You're of course right - I was a bit lazy and hoped it wouldn't be too obvious, but evidently it is - the horror! I'll have to clip the top 1mm off!
I know of the brush approach but honestly: I've already invested way too much effort in a base I wasn't planing to actually do in the first place - so it's going to be mud because I don't want to spoil the fun by engaging in too much effort on behalf of a kit that's full of errors anyway...
... that's a lazy man's argument, isn't it? ...
Annnnyway: I did some ageing with oils =>

I wouldn't say horror Raoul, more of a slight fright.
Seriously though, if they work for you, leave them alone, it is, after all, your model.

Nah, corrected.. it was an exercise of under 60seconds, so.. yeah... my laziness was apparently epic .
I also treated the whole tank with oils =>
More to come soon .
