I really didn't do much in the way of "special tricks" I just used Noch pigmented structure paste, but really this would work with any structure-paste-stuff-thingy (totally professional term here... ), glued the FR grass pieces onto the base and then went over the whole thing with several mixtures of dry pigments to both get the grass properly "summer-dry" and the road properly dusty, then I fixed (and toned down) the whole with some terpin applied from the AB and sealed it with another layer of flat varnish...

What it did take was a ton of grass...(sounds like a stoner-statement... ), but luckily the pre formed Fredericus Rex grass patches are fairly cheap, especially if you realize that you get roughly 50 patches for 6€....though I suppose that's not entirely helpful once you remember that it's a German company and I'm thus "at the source"...
I used roughly 3 boxes of grass patches, but with lots of leftovers, so it's really an okay deal.

The agitprop board is dirt-cheap ice cream sticks I bought in a 500 piece package for something under 3€ and then there will of course be the telegraph pole from Miniart...


It's only my third diorama and so far the effort necessary to fuddle the thing together to look halfway decent is decidedly lower than the last one - though that could also be the result of a learning experience .

But it has caused further progress again, as it did for the past week - so it's not entirely negative .

I also decided on a "chair" for Mr. Cat-fancier. Since there are already hand grenades out on the dio I used two boxes of hand grenades... gives the term "hot seat" a new significance. =>

Looking really nice Raoul. You have carried off the dust look really well and considering it has rained something like 17 out of the last 19 days here, it looks really nice to me.

Do you have a plan for the edges of the base? At the DIY big box stores around here they sell various decorative molding pieces that are probably 3-4mm X 6-7mm in cross section. I've used them around bases in the past since they are small enough that they are easy to cut with a razor saw and mini miter box. Here is one example:

I was more thinking to keep it very austere and just blacken the borders to signify the "end" of the scenario, the breaking off point of the willing suspension of disbelieve if you will, from there on out it's all plastic, plaster and pigments again and not a 251 on the Don steppe =>
