Hi Raoul,

How did you manage to make the base look so good, so quickly, with so little stuff?

this is becoming a regular thing with you Raoul, the base master :D

Nearly there, then an Armoured car?

Very nice work ;)

Thanks Steve! :D

I really didn't do much in the way of "special tricks" I just used Noch pigmented structure paste, but really this would work with any structure-paste-stuff-thingy (totally professional term here... ), glued the FR grass pieces onto the base and then went over the whole thing with several mixtures of dry pigments to both get the grass properly "summer-dry" and the road properly dusty, then I fixed (and toned down) the whole with some terpin applied from the AB and sealed it with another layer of flat varnish...

What it did take was a ton of grass...(sounds like a stoner-statement... ), but luckily the pre formed Fredericus Rex grass patches are fairly cheap, especially if you realize that you get roughly 50 patches for 6€....though I suppose that's not entirely helpful once you remember that it's a German company and I'm thus "at the source"...
I used roughly 3 boxes of grass patches, but with lots of leftovers, so it's really an okay deal.

The agitprop board is dirt-cheap ice cream sticks I bought in a 500 piece package for something under 3€ and then there will of course be the telegraph pole from Miniart...

It's only my third diorama and so far the effort necessary to fuddle the thing together to look halfway decent is decidedly lower than the last one - though that could also be the result of a learning experience ;) .

Best regards

And another sleepless night...yay :?

But it has caused further progress again, as it did for the past week - so it's not entirely negative ;) .

First of all I fixed the telegraph pole and set up some wires =>

I also decided on a "chair" for Mr. Cat-fancier. Since there are already hand grenades out on the dio I used two boxes of hand grenades... gives the term "hot seat" a new significance. =>

Let's have another dress rehearsal =>

Looking really nice Raoul. You have carried off the dust look really well and considering it has rained something like 17 out of the last 19 days here, it looks really nice to me.

Do you have a plan for the edges of the base? At the DIY big box stores around here they sell various decorative molding pieces that are probably 3-4mm X 6-7mm in cross section. I've used them around bases in the past since they are small enough that they are easy to cut with a razor saw and mini miter box. Here is one example:

Ohhh, looking very nice there Matt, and thanks for the dusty compliment :D .

I was more thinking to keep it very austere and just blacken the borders to signify the "end" of the scenario, the breaking off point of the willing suspension of disbelieve if you will, from there on out it's all plastic, plaster and pigments again and not a 251 on the Don steppe  =>

Sorry Raoul

But you set it up with your comment,
was it deliberate?

Black Adder 4 episode 1

Queue script

[George is preparing to paint Blackadder.]
Blackadder: Right, you ready?
George: Yes, if you just want to pop your clothes on the stool
Blackadder: I'm sorry?
George: Just pop your clothes on the stool over there
Blackadder: You mean... You want me... Tackle out?
George: Well, I'd have thought so yes
Blackadder: If I can remind you of the realities of battle George, one of the first things everyone notices is that all the protagonists keep their clothes ON. Neither we nor the Hun favout fighting our battles au naturel...
George: It's artistic licence sir... It's the willing suspension of disbelief
Blackadder: Well I'm not having anyone staring in disbelief at my willy suspension!

Well it looks like you just about have this one wrapped up Raoul. Well done. The grass was well worth the effort and expense.
