Ohh,

damned good close focus pictures Raoul, how do you manage that :?

I never can

Still love the psychedelic 60's hippy camo too, even though it is disappearing under your "clutter"

Good to hear you are dealing with life and getting back to the bench ;)

I need to do some updates too

Nice work :D

Thanks Steve! :D

Nikon Coolpix L820 with 30x optical zoom ;) . In other words: it's a hardware question, I bought the camera on Philipp's suggestion when I bought a new one because of it's macro capabilities :!: .

The downside is that everything built looks oh so crappy sometimes when photographed up close, no matter how good it seemed when you where just seeing it in 1:1 scale   .

More progress! (never mind, it will eventually stall again for one or the other silly reason, I somehow know that... )

Anyway - colour modulation! (of course it would be kind of awesome if it would be as visible in the photograph as it is in reality... :? )

And the negative of the camo on the 251... I have no photographic evidence for THIS specific case, but I suppose it's possible  - somehow looks like the product of a technologically advanced Meso-American culture  .

Raoul- Progress is always a good thing. At least you had a valid reason for this to stall. I on the other hand have none and will likely stall at some point as well.

There's always a valid reason to stall and be it that it's a hobby, not an obligation, if you're not in the mood, don't do it, nobody forces you (well except the forum here starts to get nervous after a couple of months without any progress  )!

Anyway, I finished half of the 251's running gear (I'm not putting any pressure on you there Shawn, am I...? ). It's dark ochre pigments over dark yellow, fixed with some matt varnish, then another layer of pigments, this time fixed with a brew of highly diluted dark oils in terpin to give it structure and depth.

Now I need to figure out how to get the LeFH 18/40 look appropriately dusty - there is zero contrast between the chosen pigments and the base colour here....could have thought about that earlier... :?

NO pressure what so ever Raoul, and as expected no progress, I'morking 84 hrs out of 96hrs right now. Hopefully when I get off in the morning I might have some energy left for progress. If not it will have to wait til Friday.

Enough about me. Your build is looking great. Nice work on all the extras.

Thanks Shawn and Vlad! :D

Full of motivation ( ) I went ahead and finished the leFH 18/40!

Question time:
Q: Why is it so dark?!
A: Because it's Afrikabraun, not Dunkelgelb! It's Blau after all!

Q: Be honest, wasn't it just to facilitate some contrast between the gun and the dust?
A: If I where so prosaic I'd have to say guilty as charged... but of course I'm not...

Q: Isn't the leFH 18/40 a little early for late summer of '42?
A: Not in this case, the 18/40 was thrown together in early '42 to get a more mobile light howitzer for the divisional artillery, however in the summer of '42 is had only started to appear in the batteries of the mechanized forces (it took until early '43 to reach the regular divisional batteries) , hence the 251 towing it, probably a vehicle from one of the divisions of fourth Panzer Army...

Q: Why are you so annoyingly motivated?
A: Because for the first time in two and a half years my health is getting better for a change instead of going down the drain  !

How it's eventually supposed to look (still without ageing and weathering on the leFH 18/40) =>

With weathering and dust (probably still subject to the occasional touch-up)=>

Weee, my base-plates arrived! :D
18cmx40cm is essentially the ideal "widescreen" formate I prefer because all my dioramas end up being long-ish anyway...especially the ones with 251s...like all I've done so far  .
=>

Also: the ever useful sticks...tons of 'em ...essentially a life time support I suspect  .
Image

And that's more or less how it will eventually look - I even set up a couple of Fredericus-Rex dry grass tufts to facilitate a generally halfway decent impression.
