Re: Sd.Kfz 251/1 towing leFH 18/40
Thanks Vlad, Chris, Pille, Rob, Ian and Gary!
It's not so much my mediocre skill as a simply über-excellent kit!
And yes, Philipp's right... I sometimes sink into the pathetic valley of self-pity currently... and it takes some motivation to climb out again, but Philipp's proven reasoning that I feel generally much better once I'm actually building something somehow always needs a couple of nagging repeats to filter through again .
Tanks for doing this Philipp, you're a real friend!
Also: I'm kind of intrigued as to what will be forthcoming from you Ian!
I also started on the 251C... really nothing new so far except that the fit is for one reason or the other vastly superior (so far...) to the 251/7 I built last time... maybe it's the simple fact that it's an unmodified kit without a ton of later additions, who knows.
Best regards

My sentiments too!
My recollection building the "C" was that It all fitted very nicely indeed
When will Dragon re-release or update them

Welcome aboard Raoul. You know how I feel about Half Tracks.
The leFH 18/40 looks really great. I will have to pick one up if I ever come across one at a show.

Thanks Vincent, Rob, Shawn!
The leFH 18/40 really is great and I'm happy I have another AFVClub leFH 18 lying around here .
Also: the C really goes together like a charm... I really don't know what it was last time... maybe a Monday kit?
Best regards

Thanks Ian!
I went ahead an painted the 251 - two questions arise at that point: what pattern of improvised camouflage from summer '42 should the vehicle carry and should it be in Afrikabraun or in Dunkelgelb?
Any input is welcome since I'm decidedly undecided .
Also I did some colour modulation on the kit, does it look halfway good or it just too obvious?
Best regards

That was fast
The modulation looks great, and it'll be toned down by the camo and weathering anyway!
Speaking of which...how about mud?

Re: Sd.Kfz 251/1 towing leFH 18/40
There probably won't be any mud, at least no wet mud, involved because it's going to be somewhere on the Don- or Terek steppe, dry circumstances with 40°C in summer .
Meanwhile I busied myself with some minor steps.. exempli gratia the MG-34s. I exchanged the plastic barrels with RB items... though I think the optics I scratched from a bit of brass wire are..meh.. it will do in scale, but when viewed under magnification I'm not that happy...oh well.. next time I'll try lead foil...
I also put everything leather or wood through the "Verlinden routine" and dry-brushed the NATO brown base-coat with GW "Kisilev Flesh" which (for whatever reason) looks quite acceptable to me...the end result will be further modified by the oils anyway
Best regards
