ICM Russian 45mm Anti Tank Gun

Post by Vincent Power »

I've had this old ICM kit for ages and the Group Build is a good excuse to finally put it together.

Considering the instruction sheet, I'm guessing it will be a quick build.

It's pretty basic and hasn't got many parts, but the wire wheels are lovely.

I don't plan on doing much to it other than maybe thin the armour plates simply because it is so tiny. ;)
Should be a challenge to paint and weather something so small.
Cheers,
Vincent

I haven't got anything planned other than paint Philipp :D I think it'll be towed by something rather than be in an emplacement scene. Maybe a GAZ truck? I have a couple of those from Miniart that I've wanted to build for a while.

If there had been a new release I don't think I would still have this one

A GAZ truck would be nice :D

The Germans used these too, even on the western front

That is a dinky looking gun! The spokes on the wheels look very fine indeed.

A GAZ on the Western Front? I didn't know that happened. Could be interesting, thanks Philipp. :) The only trouble I have for this build is that my GAZ is one of the 6 wheeled ones. Might be overkill for such a small gun?

I also stumbled across a picture of the gun with a limber being towed by a Lend Lease Jeep. 8-)

Thanks Ian. :) The wire wheels are the best choice of the two options supplied in the kit I reckon.

Some progress. I did say this would be quick but there is some mismatched moulding on the parts that need cleaning up. In keeping with such an old kit, the barrel had to be drilled out too. The fit so far is so so at best but hey, I'm a modeller so I'm not complaining. ;)

Sorry, I meant the 45mm gun. :? But I wouldn't rule out that a few GAZ were used in the west as well. Since it was at its core a license-built Ford truck spare parts usually weren't much of a problem.

The Germans employed Soviet Cossacks in France so a captured truck wouldn't be too far fetched.

Nice start Vincent, something satisfying about working an old kit.
