12 Ponder Canon ACW

Post by Shaun Symonds »

Hi
Finally have been able to get some shed time now it's slowly warming up in there. ;)
So I'll join this campaign with something that I've actually used. As some of you will remember I used to do American Civil War Living History & whilst belonging to the Association ( Soskan) I was with the Cavalry 1st then the Artillery for many years. So I'm doing a 12 Pounder or more commonly known as a Napoleon canon.
If I can find some suitable figure's it may become a diorama. I'm using the Verlinden kit 1774 for the build.

Hopefully start the build next week as were away this weekend at Crufts taking out 2 Skye Terriers

That is an unusual subject Shaun. Nice choice. I'll be interested to see this one come together. :)

Cheers,
Vincent

I think I've never seen a pre-WW1 artillery piece in 1/35 - very nice!

Let's all hope we don't have to wait until the 2060's for proper styrene kits

Hi
Welcome aboard all :D
Managed to get the wheels assembled. Very time consuming job that was.
First off was separating the wheel rims from there casting block , slow careful not to break the rim.

Then clamping the Rim to a supplied Jig it was time to start adding the spokes. Fun time as the jig wasn't a perfect fit.
Image
after awhile it started to look like a wheel :)

one done three to go

two done
Image
little bit of glue clean up to do later

third being made
Image
all done

glad that's done ;)
That's all for this session, got some other builds that I'm trying to finish

Really intriguing project here!
I really love the "Napoleon" 12 pounder, probably because I've grown to like it playing Sid Meier's Gettysburg and Antietam and now play the spiritual successor games of those titles  .

It would be really cool to have more late 19th century artillery with some figures... ACW pieces, Prussian pieces from the Wars of Unification... ;)

Best regards

How hard would it have been to cast that wheel in 2-3 pieces instead of 20? :o

Very nice indeed, I actually like the construction method on the spokes, elegant!

I was very tempted to do a Napoleonic artillery train, if I have time i may still do :)
