Thanks for the comments guys. I too was surprised by the speed of this build. I didn't intend to go that fast but the kit helped
Basic three-tone is painted, the salt has been sprinkled this morning and I'll spray the UN white soon. Stay tuned

Hi all,
here are some pictures of the weathering steps.
The first series shows the effect of the salt chipping. I'm not fully satisfied because I used to small grains of salt so it was a bit hard to remove all of them.
The second series shows the beginning of the weathering per se. I used some Tamiya Gray Panel Line as a pin wash and some Burnt Sienna as a filter on top of the vehicle.
More to follow!

Great work Olivier
The cable cutter(?) makes it look like it's designed to
hook onto airships...

I have tried salt before and did not have much luck. Is seemed to leave a lot of residue.
But yours looks good from here.

I agree with Shawn, Olivier. I find salt tends to leave a residue though it could well be the way I do it. I much prefer the chipping solutions now. However, to get a chipped layer over several coats, salt forms a necessary part.
I like what you've done so far.
Cheers,
Vincent

Thanks for the comments guys. Yes salt leaves some residue especially when you use too small grains like I did. Lesson learned for a next attempt. I think the trick is to filter the grains through a mesh to get the appropriate size only. Thus you eliminate the kind of dust which constitutes the residue.
Anyway, I found it easier than the hairspray technique that I haven't managed so far. I need much more training with this one, I guess.
Philipp, I must say I was intrigued by your comment so I clicked on your link! Really weird concept indeed.

Wow, that was quick. Nice paint weathering so far, will you be going for a dirty finish like in the reference photo?

Hi Chris
thanks for the comment, the dirty finish was my intent when I started this build. I still have to figure out how to represent the muddy look of the undercarriage.

Olivier- Have you tried Tamiya paints when you attempt the hair spray tech. By far they work the best IMHO of course. I've done it a few times and it has always worked like a treat.
