Hobby Boss BA-10

Post by Philipp Gross »

Well, Armoured Car fever has bitten me hard, and with the Dingo almost done it's time for the next endeavour:

Image

Hobby Boss' BA-10 came out last year and is a very welcome new tooling of that common armoured car of the late inter-war period. The BA-10 was based on the GAZ-AAA chassis and saw service with the Red Army from 1938 to 1941. A lot were captured by the Germans and used for the remainder of the war, often in rear security (ie. anti-partisan) forces. The maximum armour was 15mm and the armament the same 45mm gun as used on many other Soviet tanks of the era.

The hull is made as a single piece, a beautiful work of engineering:

There are four decal options provided, as usual for Hobby Boss without any info:

But of course I have other ideas

I haven't decided yet, but it'll be either Emil...

Or this nameless vehicle, photographed in 1941 guarding a British convoy after the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran earlier that year:

Here's the first page of the instructions:

And now you'll surely understand why I haven't started yet :P

That's it for now, thanks for looking! The first actual build update shall follow hopefully soon.

Thanks for joining in gents 8-)

The metaphorical keel is laid, and for all intents and purposes it was rather fiddly. I definitely prefer the Tamiya approach, fewer parts but more stability, as most of this stuff will be hidden anyway. Oh, and these are only the basic components, there's still a lot more to add to the rear axles.

The next step will be the engine and front axle suspension.

I have this kit as well Philipp. I think I picked it up for $15.00 at a show. It was a steal.

I will be following for sure.

Welcome aboard gents :)

Rob -
Don't worry, finishing the Dingo will slow things down eventually ;)

Shawn -
That's an excellent price! Since I really can't decide which version to build I might just get another one eventually... 8-)

Vlad -
Please go ahead, I'd love to see another one! The BA-10 has this wonderful dieselpunkish feeling to it

You really are cracking on with the armoured cars Philipp :D

I see what you mean with the steampunk look ;)

Good choices for the finished look too, there seems to be a camo on the Brit Iran car :?:

Nice one

Thank you Steve! :)

The British vehicle seems to be overall sand? As I sad elsewhere, I know absolutely nothing about British camo colours.... :?

I caught a nasty stomach bug yesterday, so no progress at the moment...
