Tamyia Sd.Kfz. 223

Post by Philipp Gross »

Hi everyone,

here's a little somethig I threw together during the last three days. More or less strictly OOTB, so you really didn't miss much ;)

The kit itself is old enough to qualify for the 70's build, but I really wanted to use the etched screens that came with the reissue from the 2000s. I also changed the MG34 for a better detailed one by Dragon. I'll paint this one for North Africa in 1941, with panzer grey and an improvised muddy desert camo.

Thanks for looking. :)

Another quick one ;)

I have your commander's brother in my paintshop at the moment

I think the family make a up a big part of Tamiya's Wehrmacht and Panzergruppe

Nice one

Looks really nice Philipp. Pretty much an add glue and shake kind of build?

Thanks everyone :)

Matt, yep that sums it about up. It's a bit low on detail and the interior is a bad joke but with the figure in the turret you don't see much anyway. I'll add a few minor bits and pieces before I start painting.

Hereby done: I remade the insanely thick rubber mudflaps from styrene sheet and added the often forgotten antenna cable. It's a bit of a mystery where it would connect to the hull, so I picked something that might be an armoured port for it. :?

Ready for painting now :D

Looking good Philipp, how was the fit of the kit overall? Got this one in the stash and my 9 year old wants to glue something together with dads help. Don't want to embark on something that is too challenging for him.
I'm a serial kit starter....

Thanks Adam :)

Fit is very good. It's an easy kit to assemble, even the antenna was no problem. I'm sure he'll love all the extras that come with it. I certainly would have back then

Still alive, still working...and since the Stug deadline is now a thing of distant memory, have a little progress update somewhere else:

The base coat won't be very visible in the end, I plan to add an improvised desert camo made from local mud. But before that can happen, some grey, then highlights and decals:

(yep, the rail bug got its share as well)

Seems like I'm the only one in this country not glued to the TV right now....

It feels a little weird to put on the decals this early, but with the next steps in mind I need them in place now:

A common feature of early Tamiya kits is the very generic decal sheet, which gives you no specific vehicles, but rather semi-generic markings for a number of units. This one is marked for the 21st Panzer Division, right after arrival in North Africa.
