Update time!
I returned, kind of, to the 231 and did some figures, another two for this little dio and I went ahead and sorted out the kit and allocated the guns, turns out it's going to be 5 Mauser K98k, 2 MP38/40, 1 Walther P38, 1 Luger P08 and of course a MG-34. =>

The one with the MG is like: "It's half past 1 already, can't we have lunch first?"

Since it's so early and in the war everyone except the one rational bloke (very unromantic) have bayonets fixed... something that would not have happened in '41 in spite of what "the Russian" said about bayonets ("The bullet is stupid, the bayonet wise.") .

First thing I was told during "Bayonet Training" at Basic was "In a bayonet fight the bullet will always win" i.e. try and win all your fights by at least 100m :D

Well... The Russian saying IS from the mid 19th century so I suppose it's not really applicable after the introduction of the rifled musket, much less the repeating rifle and smokeless powder   .

Here's the cast, sans straps, some minor corrections painting-wise, oh, and heads (Steve does them - and please don't feel pressured Steve, take your time! ;) )
I had to some of the uniforms to the M36 look and trim a ton of medals and campaign ribbons, Iron Crosses and whatnot - I mean where should they have come from in September '39 as no one is old enough to have fought in the last war?
Oh and it's infantry as indicated by the white Waffenfarbe - I was playing with making them attached to mobile troops but decided against it, it's regular poor bloody infantry that has the good luck of having an armoured car with them by lucky accident as the infantry normally, and especially that early in the war, did not have any armoured assets as organic part of the division... in fact an ID was lucky if it had motorized logistics since the Wehrmacht was pretty much horse powered ;) .

Thanks Rob - I believe I'm getting a bit better figure painting-wise but I'm still a vehicle guy, figures always frighten me.. hence the confrontational therapy across the last couple of builds  .

I did some evaluation for the poses... and added another potential half figure  .
Any criticism and/or suggestion for figure placement is highly welcome! ;)
Behold the headless legions from beyond! =>

(The bloke on the rightmost side of the 231 is shoving a 5 round clip into his 98k, that's why he looks the way he looks pose-wise... just mentioning it because it's really impossible to tell from the angle and I was to lazy ("shame!" *dingding*) to take another photo once I noticed   .)
