Re: Panzer III based vehicles
Rob, The paint on your N is looking pretty awesome.
Mark, also looking forward to seeing the DShK on your Stug.
Just a little update to show that I am making some progress. I just about have the priming finished. Once that is totally done I will do some pre-shading before the first Dunkelgelb base coat.

Re: Panzer III based vehicles
Thanks Dennis - I can say the same for that primer job - very nice.
So with the deadline approaching - it's time to pull the stops out
My first "Go" with burnishing fluid (AK Interactive) was perfectly painless
I did get some bare metal patches and I can only assume that I didn't scrub and wash the tracks sufficiently to begin with. Still pretty pleased though.
And track fitting....
I like Fruil tracks
The figure was painted last week. Alpine heads definitely do not paint as well as Hornet
The rank insignia were Alliance Modelworks which are water slide and just easier to apply than Archer dry decals. Can anyone spot the deliberate mistake - Raoul/Philipp?
Bases are never my strong point but here it goes
And finally the inner sides of the schurzen are "oiled"
And that was a whole days work but I'll be done by Saturday
Rob

Re: Panzer III based vehicles
Hi Rob
The oil work is excellent
The Alpine figure is tagged as an artillery/infantry man not Panzer crew
The tracks look the part too
And your base is on the money, you have a real winner on the way Rob
Very nice one

Re: Panzer III based vehicles
Nice one Rob!
The figure might be tagged infantry/artillery but whatever the "tagger" ( ) thought he was doing it's someone wearing the "Panzer-wrap" and the loose trousers of a tanker/assault artillery man.
The infantry had this jacket only in the case of mid-war Panzergrenadiere and those had it of course with webbing and in a green/bown-ish...er Feldgrau.
The grey version was nominally Sturmartillerie (where I could imagine the "artillery" tag comes from). Reality of course is less simple . The Sturmartillerie also occasionally wore the black version, the tankers the grey version, mechanized artillery attached to PDs both....the longer the war lasts the more confusing it gets .
Short version: from '43 on you can never go wrong with the grey panzer uniform .
Best regards

Re: Panzer III based vehicles
Thanks Guys.
As to the figure - Raoul suggested early on that this sort of vehicle late -war might appear in a Panzergrenadier division and Not a Panzer division.
Thus I present this tank as belonging to a Kampfgruppe, Spring 1945 - identity unknown.
I originally set out for Reed green but it just did not look right and so I opted for Field grey reasoning as Raoul has suggested that the chaos of End of Days might have resulted in a Sturmartillerie jacket being purloined. The waffenfarbe is Panzergrenadier green and according to the Alliance Modelworks intsructions the epaulettes are for an NCO - the difficulty being that there was a moulded rank chevron that I believe only existed for Stabs Gefreiter downwards. The pics aren't great to see but there's a rank disparity between rank chevron and epaullettes which was the utterly nerdy "spot"..................................(I'll get my jacket )
And I've finished it and the pics will be winging their way to the Ed soon
