Italeri's Land Rover (Complete)

Post by John Everett »

This will be my second entry for the GB. I've not given up on Zvezda's Big Truck. It's just that the box is so big, I have trouble bringing the kit on the road with me. This little Italeri model is far easier to transport.

Build is uneventful so far.

Is this essentially the same version as Tamiya's Pink Panther?

Yes. Component for component (even the ID plate is cast with the same number), the kit is based on this museum peice:

The Land Rover was a post-WWII design. These are from present day Yemen in about 1963-1964 (The Aden Emergency). I'm planning to go with the green/tan hard edge scheme shown in the color photo.

Is it a rebox of the Tamiya kit then or new tooling?

A rebox as far as I can tell. Although none of the sprues or castings actually have the name stamped anywhere. I would need to look at the Tamiya sprues to say for sure.

Italeri and Tamiya have some shared kits, this is one of them. So it is a reissue rather than a rebox. The Landrover is a Series 2A from what I remember.

Nice choice John, I have a Tamiya boxing of this that I was thinking of building as a Recce one used by the Territorial Army ie without all the SAS kit on it although that Northern Ireland picture has now got me thinking. Looking on with interest.

If you decide to build it, it will go together pretty quickly. The fit is generally pretty good. But there is some mould slip which becomes a problem for the smaller diameter parts.

The seats are also pretty bad. I'm going to modify and scratch some better seats.

Primer!!!!
