Ohhh! Nice Philipp! :D
I'll have to get some local dirt from the next available source, maybe not from the cemetery though (I live next door to one and using that soil would be kind of creepy  ).
I'd also like to mention that the remark made as to the quality of the local soil was not a hyperbole, the Wetterau has been an insanely fertile region since.. well ever since forever, we have Celtic oppida, Roman border forts and remains of the Teutonic Knight dependencies here... and of course currently the damnable Asparagus insanity is on us again...

- End of local patriotism, I'm a fairly connected to Frankfurt by birth and studies and work anyway  -

Best regards

Thank you gents!

Bad news, I greatly overestimated the picture frame's quality. The moisture from the mud has soaked into the wood, which in turn has expanded, causing gaps at the corners and cracks in the paint. But as the Red Army saying goes: "We have reserves!"

Alright, here's diorama base Mk II:

Image

The wooden fence is made by RB Model. While they are mostly known for their turned barrels, they also sell a few useful wood products. Like this one. :P

In the unlikely event that the whole base doesn't disintegrate overnight again, I might actually finish the whole thing relatively soon.

Of course, the fence will get some proper weathering, and I'll also add a few grass tufts. If it survives the night.

Wow! It looks like...... mud. ;)

Interested to see how things go after it has a few days to dry. There must be some sort of magic "wet preservative" which could be airbrushed on the surface as it dries, something which holds the wet gloss of the material, Future Floor Wax? Testors Gloss enamel? Blood of a virgin? There's got to be something.

Here's a secret: It is mud

Main ingredients: Mud, mud, more mud, a few pebbles and some white glue/water/soap mixture to keep it all together.

For a wet appearance I'm going to pour some clear gloss over it. It works with pigments, and these are just colourful dry mud, right?

A little update:

So far I've aimed to keep the mud "semi-wet", with a few puddles of rainwater made with a model railroad product by German company Noch.

Yep, still fits:

Very nice Philipp 8-) Are you planning on 'sinking' the wheels into the mud a little more?
