Re: Opel Blitz
Looks great Vincent !
I brushed my base with diluted white glue and a drop of soap as Philipp suggested and then powdered it with a layer of dirt (though in my case it already HAD a layer of forest in the bloody pot...seriously, who thought that adding green sponge fragments to the mixture was a good idea?!) from the garden utilizing a cooking sieve .
Also good to hear that the clay didn't go berserk on you !
Best regards

Excellent, thanks Philipp. I'll give that a go.Philipp Gross wrote:Good to see you back with this one
The "standard receipe" for fixing gravel to model railway tracks is diluted white glue with a few drops of liquid soap added. The soap helps it creep into the gaps better. I used it on my Pak 36 diorama, works perfectly fine

Re: Opel Blitz
Thanks for the suggestion Raoul. I actually used the diluted white glue method to add the "dirt" , just not very effectively given all the bare patches. When I tried doing the same with the gravel it came off on the brush I was using. So rather than get frustrated with something I've never done before I thought I'd look for another way.Raoul Kunz wrote:Looks great Vincent !

The clay behaved quite well. Some of the thicker sections between the sleepers cracked and lifted but they got covered in gravel anyway.

Re: Opel Blitz
Thanks Gary. I actually have some of that and I tried using it at the start, just not successfully. I find it's very thick and I couldn't figure out how best to use it. Do you apply it before the gravel or after? I tried applying it with a paint dropper after the gravel was in position but it doesn't "run" down into the gaps to bind it together. Does that make sense?Gary Boxall wrote:Vincent Power wrote:I haven't worked out how to fix the gravel onto the base yet but I'm sure I will.

Re: Opel Blitz
Thanks Rob and Shawn. I'm pretty keen to see it finished too!
Good news. I applied the white glue/water/liquid soap mix to the base and it worked like a charm. I'd post a pic but it looks just like the other ones I posted except for the dirt and gravel not moving anymore
Cheers,
Vincent

Re: Opel Blitz
I've done a little more of the base. I've painted the sleepers, added some colour to the dirt and painted the rails. Still more to be done.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Vincent
I didn't realise how much time a base takes..... I have a new found respect for all the diorama builders out there Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Vincent
