Airfix 1/48 Bedford MWD
"And on that Bombshell........."
Time to drag the tone down a bit.
I need a bit of light relief after figures so this will be next
Which will likely feature soon in a dio involving this.....
Away for a week - start on return though there'll be other things in my Group build

Wow! That's totally out of left field! I like it!
What kind of weird contraption is the wingy thing? It certainly looks early-post-war-ish?
Best regards

I did not see this coming. I thought you had something else on order for this build.
Either way it will be fun to follow. Make sure you blog the plane once you start it.

Just a thought Not sure if the plane should be allowed as it only has 3 wheels

Re: Airfix 1/48 Bedford MWD
Confused.?.?.?.?.
The box arts shows the foreground airplane to be devoid of pilots.
Was this thing remotely operated from the second aircraft as target drone or experimental Buzz Bomb?
The Bedford will be secondary to the oddness of the airplane. What are you using as a source for figures? 1/48 has a lot of figures, but they all tend to be in the same 6 or 7 poses.
What type airplane is it? I'd like to look it up.

Re: Airfix 1/48 Bedford MWD
So I should add that the plan wasn't to present this dio in the group build - as Gary says - 3 wheels and wingey thing
But just to have a a quick build to highlight what Airfix are currently doing - 1/48 vehicles to complement aircraft - is perhaps long overdue.
As to the plane - John - it's a Fairey Firefly U8 of which about 30 existed and were used as pilotless remote controlled target drones in 50's/60's. Special Hobby are due to release this. The Firefly was a Griffon engined naval aviation fighter bomber that saw late WWII service and featured in the Korean conflict going onto second line duties in the UK such as target towing etc.
It's got an appeal of sorts to me.
As to 1/48 figures - you are right - considering the number of aircraft in that scale - the figures are sparse and sterotyped
See ya'll ya'll in a weeks time. And there'll likely be a BTR-80 waiting for me to also feature in the wheeled Group Build and I firmly lay the blame on Chris for that

Nice choice Rob, something different.
Still trying to decide if I'm going to enter a BTR into the group build or just build one anyway at a later date. There have been rather a few packages arriving over the last week, I'll wait until Euro Model Expo on the 29th and see what I can find.

Re: Airfix 1/48 Bedford MWD
Thanks for all your comments. After an extended hiatus for various reasons, it's back to this build which should be quick.
Airfix are reinventing themselves and it's good to see. Mainly aircraft at the moment, which are being very well received. This offering is clearly designed to accoompany aircraft dios from early war onwards. Very cleverly Airfix have designed it so that the builder has a a choice of early or late versions with a variety of displays with or without tarp/tilt.
This says it better than words...
My version will have the tilt with the full windscreen - doors and side windows.
The instructions are very well done in a style that is distinctive and clear
Different sequences allow for the early or late builds
There are just 3 sprues for what is quite a small vehicle in this 1/48 scale
The Tilt tie downs are integrally moulded,
And it's an off....The plastic is firm with a few mould lines but no appreciable flash. The Sprue gates are a litlle thick and are place a tiny bit too close the to the sprue frame - care is needed nipping the parts off.
The build is logical and uncomplicated
I've got so bogged down with builds over the last few months that I'm aiming to knock off a couple of easy quick builds to restore some momentum. This is clearly one such
