Photo Etch

Post by Craig Skinner »

Hello all! I was wondering where I could get some blank sheets of photo etch to practice soldering the stuff? I don't want to start out using my Tetra upgrade kit as a first try! lol..

Any cheap set would be ideal for that purpose. Get something that has some larger parts such as stowage boxes and frames to make up but stay away from the earlier Eduard sets as they covered their frets in some awful nickel plating which makes soldering impossible.

You can also buy a small sheet of thin brass and use a sturdy set of scissors to cut it into various odd shapes. Solder, solder, solder!

Gary has a spectacular step by step on doing soldering. There's also loads of good stuff on YouTube.

Gary, where's the link to your solder SBS?

In the meantime.......

Search for tool boxes , you can add them later to the tank build . Maybe fuel barrels . Does the T90 have smoke generators ?

I'll check that out Edmund. As for smoke generators I don't know, I'll have to look at my plans tonight.

Craig,
I believe K&S Brass makes an assortment set which would be good for your practice need.

I recall seeing a small PE "starter set" that allowed you to practice soldering and folds on some misc. generic pieces but can't find the link any more. Maybe a buddy has an old set and didn't use all the pieces.

There are a lot of excellent tutorials out there. Rick's has been helpful - http://ricklawler-propaganda.com/propag ... nd-tricks/

Make sure the parts are CLEAN. I usually rub a piece of 800 grit sandpaper over the parts before I trim them from the fret.
