So....what kits do we still need?
I guess it's obvious that we live in a time where every military vehicle imaginable is released as a 1/35 plastic kit. Things I never dreamed to see have appeared in the last few years, like the T95 assault gun, the M6 heavy tank or the Neubaufahrzeug series. New WW1 stuff is announded every other week. And thanks to ICM and others we even have a wide selection of 1930's civilian cars.
Yet there are still a few gaps to fill. I doubt that any manufacturer will ever read this, but let's have a little fun for fun's sake, shall we?
I'm listing only vehicles that to my knowledge have never ever been released as a plastic kit. If we include subjects that could use a new state of the art kit, I fear it would be far longer...
US:
- M2 light tank - direct forerunner of the M3 Stuart, saw service with the Marines in the Pacific, both regular and as flamethrower
- M2 medium tank - the utterly failed grandfather of Lee and Sherman, still interesting as the point of origin for much the US WW2 tank arsenal.
- T6 Sherman prototype - we have a resin kit, but...you know...
- M4E8(105)
- M4A1E8 - some were delivered to frontline units in the final days of the war, also popular as an early IDF vehicle
- M4A3 with small hatches - weren't issued at first but saw a lot of service as replacement tanks late in the war
- T23 medium tank - the missing link between Sherman and Pershing. 250 were built but none left the US. Its turret ended up on 76mm Sherman tanks.
- T29/T30 heavy tank - the monstrous reply to the King Tiger, cancelled due to the end of the war.
- 90mm gun M1/M2/M3
- M7B2 Priest - postwar version, saw service with Germany among others
- M74 ARV - same as above
UK:
- Vickers 6-ton and its export versions
- Churchill Mk I/II and a few late Churchill versions
- Black Prince tank
- Centurion Mk I/II
- lots of other stuff I probably never heard of
Germany:
- Panzer II Ausf. a/b (not Ausf. A/B/C, we have these)
- Flammpanzer II
- Panzer III Ausf. A - thankfully Miniart is doing B/C/D already
- Stug III prototypes (should come out any day now thanks to Steve )
- Panzer 38(t) Ausf. A and all the other Czech versions made before the annexation
- Jagdpanzer 38(d) and the countless versions planned with the chassis
- 7,5 cm leIG 18 and IG 37
- 10,5 cm leFH 16 and many other WW1 guns that were still around in WW2
- 10,5 cm Flak 38/39
- 12,8 cm Flak 40
- V2 missile with Meillerwagen launch trailer and assorted other equipment
- Hotchkiss HS 30 - post-war German APC that caused a major scandal and was mostly useless for its intended role
- Schützenpanzer kurz/lang
- Many other Bundeswehr softskins
- Leopard 1/2 prototypes
- Versuchsträger 1-1 and 1-2 (yes, that one.)
France:
- Pretty much every light and medium tank besides the FT-17, Hotchkiss H38, Renault R35 and Char B1 bis
- ARL 44
- AMX-50 a.k.a. the French King Tiger
- UNIC and Somua Kégresse halftracks and the armoured versions used by the Wehrmacht
Soviet Union:
- T-10 heavy tank
- KV-13 - missing link between KV and IS series
- Early BT tanks
- T-44
- Early T-54s with turrets similar to the T-34/85
- Post-war nuclear artillery and missile carriers on IS chassis
- many other things Greg probably knows a lot more about
Civilian:
- More classic 2-axle trams, preferrably the Berlin type suitable for getting plowed through with an IS-2
- Countless everyday cars from the 50s to now, especially those that ended up in large numbers in conflict areas
Any more ideas?
Philipp

Would love to see the M5/M9 series done. Dragon has over 7/8 of it with there M2/M3 series.
Another plastic M4A1 wide hatch. Dragon's has become OOP and Tamiya's is a Joke!

Re: So....what kits do we still need?
For the UK,
FV 430 Series, plenty of variants to get the money back on the moulds
the rest of the CVR(T)s, AFV Club have done Scorpion and Scimitar but that still leaves the other 6
CVR(W) Fox the turret of which could go on a Scorpion hull to make a Sabre and on the 432 hull to make a 432-30
Chieftain, yes Tamiya have one but it is a mix of prototype and Mk III and there are enough versions for a manufacturer to get their money back on the moulds plus Iranian ones
Centurion Mk 5 AVRE, come AFV Club you've got the basic tank already, plus other nation Cents like the Olifant
Saracen and Stalwart, Dragon already have the running gear from the Saladin
Ferret
105mm Light Gun
FH70 155mm Gun, also good for Germany, Japan, Estonia and a load of others
Bedford RL, MK and MJ, both as bed and box body
Austin Champ
AEC Militant, again AFV Club have the beginnings in their Matadors
Germany
MAN 7T Light Artillery Rocket System, Revell have the basic truck and Elite do a terrible resin conversion so even one from Revell would be an improvement
Civilian
Golf Mk I and III
Transit van
1950s Beetle
No, not been thinking about this a lot at all

Same as for Chris and I'll second Mark's want for an M5/9 halftrack

How about Italeri?Mark Aldrich wrote:Another plastic M4A1 wide hatch. Dragon's has become OOP and Tamiya's is a Joke!
I wouldn't mind a Golf IV. Not quite as common in third world warzones but I might build my own car then, dents and all

Re: So....what kits do we still need?
Phillip,
As bad and old as Italeri's kit is, it is leaps and bounds above Tamiya's M1 Super Sherman with less to alter.
Chris,
What year are the CMK series Bugs? Does a '50s series have a single year window?
