Mr. Modelbau CSSR Turret ???

Post by Mark Aldrich »

Have any of you purchased this? Is the weld bead around the turret that pronounced? I have wanted to get it but I have no pictures that show that much of a weld bead.

I haven't seen this particular turret in person yet but my resin wheels by MR Modellbau had huge casting blocks, a few bubbles and slight warping in some areas. Newer sets might be better.

Philipp,
I bought their Syrian Panzer IV conversion and was quite pleased. I also have the modular Chatap conversion and it is also nice. Granted, I haven't tried sanding it down to fit the M113 yet but I will. Guess I will have to lay some $$$$ down and pick it up since no one else makes a Czech turret yet.

OK,
Hope to add some photos. Interesting thing happened last week. I received the MR. Turret and was not at all impressed. It really does not resemble photos of a Czech turret at all. However, I found the OLD CMD Czech on Evilbay and won it for $20.00. This one, also having it's own problems is far more "true to the reality" look of the pictures I have. This evening, I hope to break out the camera and snap some photos of what I am referring to.

So here are the photos.

This is a T-34/85 with a Czech designed and cast turret. Notice the way the two halves are joined (especially the weld seam). These are the only ones that seem to have the specially designed DshK mount. Other Czech T-34/85s were sold and used to Syria, but only the Czech designed turreted versions had the special AA mount.
Real thing...

The Mr. Modelbau turret...not even close to a Czech version...

The CMD turret. Designed for the Tamiya T-34 but so much more matching the Czech design....

Even to my untrained eye and only with Aquino glance at your reference images, the CMD turret is much closer.

I think the Mr Modelbau kit is just designed to create a Czech modified vehicle, not a Czech designed vehicle.

See what you mean Mark

It has obviously got lost in translation!

The T 34 is still a new venture for me, still soooo much to learn

The Facebook T 34 club is certainly a massive resource, and Mr R does post regularly too ;)

Looks like you re 1/2 way there, Mark

Happy building :D

FC model trends sold a mount designed by Pete Hamann.

The only issue was that the mount has only been seen on pics of the Czech turret. I bought the Mr. Modelbau kit because I thought it might be a Czech turret. Luckily, Evilbay came through and I snagged the old CMD kit for a song. Both kits are great as they contain almost 90% of the other pieces that make a Czech produced T-34/85 so most of the Mr. Modelbau will just end up in the scrapyard.

You could do it literally

Have a rusted T 34 turret in a scrap yard as a mini scenario

Vincent has some really good rust photos and blogs going hereabouts ;)

Another project for a rainy day
