2020 sub GB?

Post by Steve Hutchinson »

Hi Chaps

After the quick build spitfire, this is how it was set out for me.

Anything that doesn't cost more than £5 or £6 or its currency equivalent around the world, not including P&P.

At £5.95 you can get most of the 1:76 Airfix range of tanks as an example

E bay Airfix tanks

No extras other than what arrives in the box in the post; and what you have in paint, glue, tape, brass sheet frames from used PE, wire, tissue, gauze, putty, filler, clay etc but nothing extra ""bought"" or "found" or already "owned" that is pre-made and belongs to the subject.

The price will probably limit you to 1:72, 1:87, 1:144, but you never know what is out there.

Its a quick build and paint, as it will be small, with few parts and a small cost investment so you can have a go without worrying if it all goes badly wrong, a real palette cleanser for 12 weeks?

Any other thoughts?

Sounds really good! How about we call it "The 5 £/$/€ Challenge"?

Start tomorrow, end on September 7?

Can it be something that we have in our stash currently that can be found on ebay for less then 5 £? I've got a kit that fits the bill that I only have because I won it in a raffle at a model show.

EDIT: Looked at one way I did spend more then 5£ on it since I spent more then that on raffle tickets, but, I also won a Wingnut Wings kit in the same raffle and considering what they are going for on ebay now  I could more then make the money back I spent in the raffle, meaning the kit I am thinking of is sort of free. (How's that for modelling justification for growing the stash!)

I'm in, considering the $NZ/GB exchange rate currently I've got $9.80 to spend. Most of our Hobby Shops have reopened and are having sales so should be able to find something that spins my wheels! :D

So for less than £5 I got an Academy 1/72 F6F-3/5 Hellcat. Box was a bit crushed but the plastic bag containing the sprues was there as is a decal sheet. Got it home and realized why it was in the bargain bin, no instruction sheet!!

Should still be able to build it, most of the parts are pretty self explanatory. I’ll also have a look online and see what I can dig up.

As I get bogged down in the DR9 build I’ll start this kit to clear the mind!

Seems like a good idea all round

A "" free"" raffle win is cool, though I wouldn't mind the Wing Nuts kit!

They are silly prices and have been for ages, after they said no re releases!

I'll check out E-bay and I have my 2 fall back kits too!

Start date seems good and 3 months will be fine and it will be a distraction build for when you are bogged down, win, win, win all round

I'm in

Steve,

Prices on Wingnut kits have always been crazy, now that they are out of business, it's gotten completely nutty. I've got a kit that I bought new for something like $170 USD that I saw with a sold price on ebay of $422! :o
