Retro GB Part 2?

Would anyone be interested in a new round of the 70's GB? I've been browsing the old build logs and it seems most of us had a lot of fun back then...

Maybe we could try out some new ideas this time? Perhaps a pre-2000 kit with only contemporary AM allowed, if you can get it?

Anyone interested, or is it just me being fed up with tiny Tiger details?

Nice idea, I just need to check if I still have some oldies in the stash.

Sounds good to me. But maybe we add it to the overall group builds for the year with a end date of 31.12.2018

Considering all the car kits in the stash were made in the last century, pre 2000 makes sense to me.
I`d be in for that. :)

The other option would be a pre-2000 kit, but you are allowed to use modern aftermarket parts to bring it up to spec. I'm suggesting this as there are a lot of older kits around, but the manufacturers of most aftermarket parts do limited runs and unless you have it in your stash there are unlikely to be pre-2000 aftermarket PE/Resin/track sets still available.

Modern aftermarket on an old kit is pretty much standard for me? :?

Let's keep discussing and see what happens 8-)

Sounds like a splendid project to me! Though I suppose we should impose some sort of limit or condition on the AM because otherwise it would just end up a rather standard build - old kit with new AM is something of a standard trope around these here parts  .

Maybe a kit not newer than 15 years with AM, if available not newer than 5 years past the initial release?

If I'm just starting to get overly complicated jump in and kick me in the metaphorical shins everyone!

Hi Chaps

As a serial unfinished GB'er  Perhaps something similar to our other quick builds?

Old kit, definitely,

simple kit, preferable,

After market, say just barrels and tracks IF needed?

Unlimited scratch building though

Perhaps a subject choice as done before?

A theatre of war?

Maybe a finish too?

winter white, desert, mud, camo, single colour?

A shorter 12 weeks period, as it shoud be a quicker build?

We currently have 3 x 1 year GB's, and a short one would be a "palette cleanser" for anyone getting "tiger fever" Philipp ;)

After Easter 010418 would be a good start date, as I have no access to an AB station at present, its currently snowing, again, with the "Mini Beast from the East" blasting -6C across northern England

Any thoughts?

Regards

Very much in favour of a short term build, everything else will just add to the ever growing shelf of shame

Here's another idea: How about a personal retro build?

Most of us have been modelling for years or decades and whatever we started with probably looks a lot different than what we can do today. Therefore I'd suggest you take an old kit from ages past and build it again with your current skills. Aftermarket might be okay, extra points for going the hard way and using only what was available to you back then. It doesn't matter if it's a 1970's Tamiya kit or a 2005 Dragon Premium Edition bougt and ruined in youthful ignorance (speaking from personal experience here  ).

What do you think?

Hehe that sounds like a great idea! I know that I wrecked a couple of Tamiya Shermans when I was growing up.

And I just picked up an Tamiya Easy Eight the other week.... Not the same kit, but same family! ;)
