Re: 2017 Group Build Pt. 1: Self Propelled Guns / Panzer 38(
Good point Chris. The organisational level is another can of worms...
So, how about these rules:
- Any weapon system capable of indirect fire by design, gun, missile or otherwise
- Any SP Anti-Aircraft gun or missile system
Concerning my entries, I haven't decided yet but one of these might make it:
Panzer 38(t) Ausf. S in Russian service, with the hull machine gun replaced with a DT.
Flammpanzer 38, needs a rebuilt roof since nobody so far has figured out the correct roof layout, which was different from the standard Hetzer.
Absolutely no idea what to do with the SP Guns, I'll decide after we reach a consensus here

I've got a Sexton, Bishop and Archer in the stash so possibly one of those but the Meng Gepard is VERY tempting No 38(t) from me, enough on my plate already

I suppose it's a question of design and how faithful you want to be to the build theme.
My other option at the moment for the self propelled artillery is the Russian TOS-1 MLRS system. Not really a "gun" but certainly artillery! Thinking that with my work rate and the amount of extras on the Paladin it could turn into a year long build. I've got the Trumpeter TOS-1 and ET photo etch set in the stash and thinking that my be a quicker job....

Interesting discussion. I reckon that self propelled artllery is a more fitting description than self propelled gun. Rather than the chassis, I think it's the weapon that determines the definition. But I also think participation is most important. Just my two cents worth.
As far as the Group Build goes, I got this on the weekend. It comes with Fruilmodel metal tracks too! Should be fun I think. Vincent

The Wespe is a beautiful kit, there are a few things missing on the interior however. But nothing too serious.
I've got one laying arund here ready for paint, should get to it some day

Here's what I did with mine. Tamiya used an incomplete museum piece for reference...but nothing a bit of lead wire, sheet styrene and a well-filled spares box can't solve

As far as I'm concerned, I would include all indirect fire systems which role is to hit ground targets (that means SP guns, howitzers, mortars and rocket launchers). That's what artillery is designed for.
Anti-aircraft artillery or air-defense artillery is another story and could deserve a GB on its own.
I have a bunch of SPG/H/M in my stash (M109A6, PzH2000, 2S9, PRAM not counting the ASU-85 which I doubt fits the definition) so the most complicated for me will be the choice of the model to build. Maybe I could open a vote to help me make my decision

Fair point, though the suggestion was self-propelled guns. I have a feeling this made it to first place because it allows everyone a lot of freedom in what they want build. I don't think we should make it too restrictive, the more people joining in the better.
