Re: Mama Can I
I also made a start on the figures. I will use Hornet heads on the US guys but the boy I don't have a option but to use the kit one.
Detail on these figures are not bad. I have seen worse. The biggest problem was there were not any pockets on the lower part of the Jacket. So my first attempt at sculpting something went petty good IMHO. Pockets added.
Boot laces were removed I and added some new ones using small metal mesh screen cut to fit.

Re: Mama Can I
Excellent work Shawn! No expert on pre-war cars either, but my best guess would be black, blue or maybe cream yellow. Of course there's always the possibility of a custom paint job.
Here's an idea: how about a formerly black or camouflaged car given a not quite perfect colourful new paint job by its new owners?

Holy Crap! That's brilliant! Vinnie would be proud.
Pockets turned out really, really well! You should do a lot more sculpting. It opens a whole range of figure possibilities.

I'm with John - Great idea - looks Fab
I'll be nicking that one. Nice work on the car Shawn. Like the sculpting of the tarp and the pockets - very neat and effective.
As to colour? Black really is such a constant in historical pics. Matt is our car guy - Page him!

Wow
Missed the Type 170 build completely
Try this for alternative colours, even in black and white
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpQaRIVIVZQ
Philipp could have a good point, bright colours with a heavily weathered and washed off top coat of military paint
Great work on the pockets and laces Shawn
The box does show pockets, weren't there any
As ever great work

Re: Mama Can I
Thanks Rob, Philipp, John, Chris and Steve.
I wish I could take credit for the lace thing but I got that from Andy Evans.
Steve- as far as the pockets each figure had one partial pocket on the lower Jacket.
Decided to start on the house. As I stated above this is now my fourth Mini Art building I have built. One of the problems I have had with each one in the past is being a Vacuumed Formed kit the building walls are hollow when glued together making it difficult to get good strong bonds where the two halves come together.
I have tried several different approaches.
1) I have taken left over plastic and glued it to the inside seams. Did not work real well IMHO.
2) I have taken sheets of Styrofoam and placed between the two halves. This was difficult to do.
3) I tried taking the spray foam insulation. What a damn mess that was.
Well today I had a break through. I was thinking to myself what are these walls missing. Well lets think about this. What do our walls in our homes have?? Studs of course
I can finally take credit for having an original idea
Using 1/2" x 1/2" balsa I framed the walls in. And I have to tell you it worked great. The balse was just glued in using super glue gel.
One thing you want to watch out for is there is some raised area on the inside as you see on the right hand side. Try to avoid putting the wood over this but if you do just trim the balse to fit.
This last pic shows two things.
1) Once you remove the kit pieces from the Vacuumed Formed sheet you need to take a full sheet of sanding paper and sand down the rough edges of the plastic.
2) Once your frame is glued in you need to sand that down a small amount. 1/2" Balsa is just a little to thick.

Re: Mama Can I
Eureka
I have been puddling around with a mini art wall set as a diversion from having too many figures built at lunch time
And I was going to use your idea No.#1,
I guess I can skip straight to No. 4, and very well thought out Shawn
Off to the woodshed for some 1:35 framing material
Nice one for sharing too

Re: Mama Can I
Shawn Will laugh at this - I used wooden Tongue depressors in a similar way to buttress my first and only effort.
Nice one Shawn
