Swamp Castle

Post by Philipp Gross »

Here's something I came up with because I'm in dire need of a little diversion from the 251 and Pak project... :geek:

Somewhere in western Russia, ca. 1940: A test drive with the brand new "KV Big Turret" went a little wrong...

Image

The idea came to me because I had a Trumpeter KV turret left over since I need the hull for a Model 1939 KV-1. I dug up a chunk of floral foam and a cheap wooden box from the arts&crafts store and this is what I ended up with so far.

The crewman is a resin figure by Stalingrad. Fits about perfectly :)

The kit's barrel is very much unusable, having both the wrong shape and an off-centre muzzle bore in front. Since the real one was a very simple design and the muzzle will end up mostly underwater anyway, I replaced it with a piece of Evergreen tube of suitable diameter. The pistol plug and chain are from Voyager Models.

Thanks for looking! :)

It's a good idea for a small diorama. How will you do the water?

Thanks gents! :)

John, I'll be using that model railway water I tested on my Greyhound diorama. It's some sort of clear liquid resin and I need to build it up in several layers. I hope I can add some layers of dirt inbetween that makes it look like proper swamp water. As usual, it will be mostly trial and error :?

Instead of dirt, try using pigment powder. Its very fine grain allows it to mix more completely with the resin. Obviously test it first before risking your model.

Thanks John, I'll keep that in mind :) I'll have to experiment how it reacts to pigments, paints and such stuff - if it doesn't mix properly, my only option will be to apply it onto the hardened surface inbetween layers.

Paint! Several of them!

Of course I'll need some more weathering on the turret before I start pouring in the wet stuff ;)
