back to work on this, finally. I'm going to incorporate the SdKfz 234 and the M4A3E8 I blogged into one scene. Set in March 1945, the 234 has been strafed and gone into a ditch.
Here’s the start of the base that I’m going to use. I started this base last spring to be used for another project that didn’t work out. I took a cheap pine plaque and covered it with a mix of dirt and coffee grounds, and that’s where I had left it.
For my road block scene, I took my dremel and carved out a drainage ditch. Then I covered the road with air dry clay. This was the first time that I used the air dry stuff and had it crack.
Next, I gave the road bed a coat of Elmers Wood filler to fill in the cracks then added tank tracks
Next, I added some Liquitex Ceramic Stucco to the ditch to give it some texture.
Folowing up, I gave the base a coat of cheap craft paint raw umber.
Lastly, I oversprayed the roadbed with a 50/50 mix of Tam Flat Earth and Desert Yellow, then added some Woodland Scenics Burnt Grass and Course Turf around the edges of the ditch.
Next up, I'll finish weathering the 234 and add it to the base.

Re: Road Block
I've added the 234 to the base. In the ditch, I tried to make it look muddy by adding some raw umber paint to some Future and then applying it in pools.
Next up I'll add the Sherman when I finish with the stowage and crew. ALmost there.

Re: Road Block
Nice work Steve - always useful to see how people approach basework.
We don't see enough of it. The water has come out well.
Looking great

Re: Road Block
Thanks, guys.
Here's a small update. I did some weathering and stowage work on the Sherman. Stowage is a mix of Verlinden, Tamiya, DML, and odds and ends from the spares box. THe crew figures are a mix of DML and Tamiya. I still have some work to do on the base groundwork.
I'm also trying to figure out why the color doesn't come out quite right with the camera.

Re: Road Block
Colour looking OK my side - just a little "washed out".
Nice scene - come alive and reminiscent of so many Normandy pics
