48th scale diorama project

Post by Matt Parvis »

I mentioned I had this project underway elsewhere so I figured I should share what I have gotten done so far.

First off, the cast of characters:

This figure, from Gaso.line, was okay, but, I didn't like the way his legs were sculpted, so I went at them with files and blades.

Here is one leg done and one leg untouched:

I also ended up replacing his binoculars and holster since the detail on those was not great. The final figure is in the front row, on the left.

Here is the Stug, awaiting paint:

The tracks are done as well:

Finally, this will be in the scene as well, more as a part of the scenery then integral to the story.

48th is nice, the smaller size allows me to make quick progress which help keep the interest levels up.

Next up is to move forward on the I-16 and get started on the painting.

I like where this is going :D

The supply of suitable aircraft kits is definitely an advantage of 1/48 scale.

Thanks for looking in all.

Shawn, they're smaller, so easier...? :? Plus, snow smocks are white, and white is sooo easy to paint. Erm, wait, that's not right at all.

Been moving forward with this, pretty much all on the building/getting ready for paint side. The I-16 is pretty much built. Here it is with the base so far and the Stug to give a sense of the scene:

As always, comments, thoughts, etc. are always welcome.

Jan, it's fairly compact actually, roughly 30x25 cm.

I really love this setup  The same thing in 1/35 would be insanely huge.

I have been working on this project, although I did get distracted with this. I haven't made a tremendous amount of progress, but, as is often the case for me, the project got a little bigger. I decided I wanted to have an bit more of an explanation on how the troops came to be there so decided to add an Sdkfz 251. The base wasn't quite big enough to have both vehicles though so I ended up adding 2-3 cm to the base.

Here is the 251 currently:

and the Stug with some paint:
