Styrodur workshop

Post by Chris Smith »

I attended a two day workshop on working with styrodur insulting foam at the weekend. Most of the people attending were wargamers/ tabletop gamers but there were four of us from our club who were interested in what we could make for use in dioramas.

The first part was a general practise piece just to get used to the techniques and then we had a day and a half to work on our own projects. I decided to build a barn with an overhanging roof under which I can later park a Landrover or FV432, a typical Cold War exercise scene.

It ended up a timber clad barn as brick work to scale was very hard to get right, especially within the time frame. The sliding door needs to be hung properly but I'm curious how it will all look under paint. I've only used styrodur for making bases until now.

You showed that insulting foam who's boss :P

Seriously though, that looks really nice! Any WIP shots? What does the material look like before cutting?

Steve,

It's not balsa foam, it's foam insulation.

I didn't take any in progress photos but I have some of the other projects on my phone. I will try and get the time to post them.
