SAFS-R Space Type SeaPig

The SeaPig is an armed reconnaissance variant of the SnakeEye. This build is based on a Zionel Western resin conversion kit that came out in the early 2000s and is designed for the Nitto series of kits.

The resin replaced 80 percent of the Nitto kit. Only the legs, gun arm upper section, thrusters, hatch hinge and a few other items were used from the plastic kit. I used several aftermarket items I have collected over the years.

I sculpted the joint covers with green stuff and the small welds are sculpted from Aves.

It always amazes me how many obscure garage kits there were of this stuff decades ago...and how you manage to get your hands on them

As usual, no idea what this thing is, but I like all the fine details on it

Back in the day, the only way was to go to Japan and buy them at the one day WonderFest event. I never went but friends went and I gave them money and a list and hoped for the best. Now, many of the MaK garage kit guys do limited run mail order.

This one in particular was recently given to me by a friend, he had bought it from another friend that had gotten it from a third friend that had gone to Japan.

Finished this for the IPMS Nats Plastic Posse Podcast special MaK Group Display.

Airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics. Weathered with oils, enamels and a small amount of pigments. I should have spent a little more time on prep work as I found a few pin holes and accidentally got a big glob of super glue in a bad spot during final assembly. I dealt with them as best I wanted to and moved on with my life.

Of all the impressive details on this...thing, the pilot's eyes stand out the most. Did you use eye decals or is it all hand painted?
